It was Phainon’s turn to furrow his brows and he balked. “No! Cyrene would not let me live it down. She’d tease me endlessly and our marriage would not last a month.”
“Hmm.” Anaxa hummed in amusement. “But she’d be a good wife.”
“What makes you think that! You’re a great spouse, Anaxa. What are you talking about?”
“I’m only saying. Marrying Cyrene would have given you a lesser headache.”
Childishly, Phainon argued back. “Fate– Well, mother in this case, decided that it was us. And you're an amazing husband! So, no. You’re stuck with me.”
Raised to believe that two men could never lay in bed together, the seeds of doubt planted itself inside a young Phainon's heart. Three years ago, Phainon's adoptive father upheld an agreement held between Phainon's late mother and Anaxa's late father, pushing the two to wed. Three years later, the seeds of doubt finally begin to bloom.
