“Thought I’d try one of May’s recipes. I don't know, I just…” Peter shrugs lamely, like he doesn’t know what to say about it. “I don’t know.”
“Well, It smells really good,” she tells him, warmth spreading in her chest when he throws her a grateful smile.
It does smell good, and it makes her heart ache.
Sometimes MJ misses May so much she can feel the May-shaped hole in her soul. She imagines it must be at least ten times worse for Peter.
[Or, Peter tries making May's wheatcakes, but disappointment and grief catches up to him unexpectedly.]

Cere sits down at the table. "He's still alive," she tells him wearily, accepting the cup of tea Greez places in front of her. It's warm and smells of berries.
"That bad huh?"
Cere sighs, but nods. No reason to try to embellish it. She takes a sip of the tea and tries to relax her body. Her brain is still reeling from seeing Trilla again. It’d been a jarring experience. And Trilla hadn’t as much as hesitated. She’d wanted to take them all down, her with them if it came to it.

That’s… not a question Greez expected to ever have to answer. “Well, it’s my home,” he says. “But it really took a toll during the war, and the Empire didn’t exactly make things much better.”

Summary
To say that Shane did not enjoy the spotlight was a gross understatement. In fact, it was so the opposite that less than a week ago, he had actively tried to leave the viewing eye entirely, to phrase it as delicately as possible. He had tried so hard to be rude enough that no one talked to him, distant enough that peoples’ eyes passed over him as part of the background, to be slovenly enough that no one even wanted to talk to him in the first place.
To his credit, it had worked.
Set after Shane's Six Heart Event, Shane returns home after his visit to Zuzu City and slowly gets his life back together. The rest of Pelican Town wants to help him too.

But it only means something to everyone else; to him, he's still struggling with the apathy that he can no longer dull with a drink. With the promises he's made holding back the floodgates of relapse, he finds himself walking back through Cindersap Forest in the rain.

Jas couldn't help but sigh with relief when the building came into view, all big and bright with large glass windows and signs that said 'Join Us, Thrive' on them. She made a mental note to ask what 'thrive' meant when she was at school the next day, and she walked the few remaining steps to the front doors, staring at them in wonder as they slid open to reveal the biggest space Jas had ever seen.
