Summary
This is the story, as I imagine, of what Azula, Ty Lee, Zuko, and Mai did during the first half of Season 3. We only got a few snippets of their time together, and I wanted to explore exactly why Mai betrayed Azula--let's be honest, it was a long time coming. The story follows Mai's perspective just as the four leave Ba Sing Se on their airship and theoretically goes until she and Ty Lee betray Azula and are sent to prison. I say theoretically because I don't think I will continue to write this, though I've included my notes at the end if anyone would like to read them or pick up where I've left off (if you do, please credit me!) But, to get to an actual summary:
Mai leaves Ba Sing Se with the hope that things will go back to the way they were in childhood. Well, not entirely. She's definitively over Zuko, the boy with the grumpy attitude and stilted jokes. And she's going to be living in the palace without her parents now; though that may be a good thing, given the letter in her cupboard and the incident with Tom Tom, her baby brother, weighing heavily on her mind. And Azula and Ty Lee have been acting weird, especially around Mai's replacement, Kori Morishita. And, of course, the murder for which she'd been framed.
