Bull stormed into the camp, Dorian in his arms. Dorian grumbled, “I can't believe I'm allowing this. Manhandled by an oversized lumbering ox.”
“Aww, you say the sweetest things,” Bull said absently, his good eye sweeping the camp until he finally spotted Solas near his tent at the same moment that Solas spotted Aelin.
Aelin, who was very much not struggling to put one foot in front of the other, no matter what anyone said.
Solas moved, not toward Bull and Dorian, but bypassed them entirely to reach Aelin. She stopped at the edge of camp, fighting not to grimace as pain shot from her hip to her ribs. Solas took in the blood on Aelin's armor and asked quietly, “Are you hurt?”
Cassandra didn't say anything, just brushed past the two of them and headed for the pot of stew Varric had stood up to tend. Dorian drawled, “Oh, yes, he must make sure his vhenan isn't so much as bruised, nevermind the mage who isn't even on his own two feet.”
Solas ignored him, arching an eyebrow at Aelin. Fists clenched at her sides, she gritted her teeth, looked him in the eye, and lied. “I'm fine. The blood’s all his.”

Summary
Divergent Paths is a Dragon Age Inquisition expanded retelling with a focus on the relationships Lavellan and Solas builds throughout the events of the games. The primarily featured relationship is between Solas and Lavellan, but there is a deep exploration of friendships, romantic attachments and rivalries among the companions as well as some original characters.
My aim is to explore the in-between moments, the ones that happened off-screen mostly, while keeping the integrity of the story intact. There will be canon divergence in this story, first in small ways that allow for my Lavellan and Solas to react to situations in a way better fitting to their characters, in my opinion. Later in the story, there will be points of significant divergence that will affect everything. Overall, however, I am to keep as canon compliant as possible for the sake of the established characters, history and lore.
The scope of this work is rather ambitious, and it may take me a long time to finish publishing the story, but I can promise that I have an ending planned and I don’t intend to abandon it. So please, jump on board and enjoy the ride! I am delighted to have you here.

She was so at ease here, laughing and tossing little flirtatious quips back as she danced. He was far more awkward, picking up the steps of the simple folk dance quickly, but not the manner.
She had spent the entire evening engaged in the Grand Game, and at this moment, she could lay her duties aside for another time, and as she returned to him he twirled her out of the dancing and into the shadows behind one of the trellises.
They were anonymous here, and the wine and the semi-seclusion of the shadows emboldened him as he pulled her deeper into the cool green concealment of the vines, as she sighed into his mouth, pliant and soft, the thin leather of her glove coming up to caress his cheek, stopped by the smooth papier-mâché of his mask, and he deplored the layers of concealment that separated him from her touch.

He waited with baited breath as Solas strode past him, hidden in the shadows, and went for the double doors to his balcony. There was the usual tension to his shoulders that spoke of his frustration at being ignored, heard but not listened to, but there was something else to it now. There was a weight to his shoulders, as though the mantle of the world had been placed on him alone once more.
The silly wolf, Felassan thought, thinking he had to do things alone. Felassan had stood by his side for thousands of years. He had no intention of ever leaving it.

We know not where we wander now, only that as we fled from those who hunted us the eluvians sent us from the world that we knew Beyond. And as both you and Fen’harel walk the Beyond now, we can only hope that you may hear us and lend us aid in our dire need.
