After waking up in Thedas one month before the events of the Conclave, Pellena is dealing with new body features, racism, magic (yay), and the overwhelming familiarity that she truly should not have. Armed with a backpack, what she can remember of Dragon Age lore, and the occasional helpful spirit, she is determined to save what lives she can and change the mind of a grim and fatalistic wolf. Did she mention she can see the future occasionally or that she has been getting past memories of a woman who looks suspiciously like her? No? Oh well, it'll work out.

Magic is not a dog, eager to heel at your side and do your bidding. Magic is a wolf; wild and unpredictable, every spell cast is an exchange between the mage and a wild creature. You can only direct Magic, bottleneck it or flood it, but never ‘control’ it. That is the biggest misconception with mages. Those with great skill are either lucky, or know when to cut off their magical supply so as not to drown in the abyss.
What if Emmrich Volkarin was there from the beginning? He saw a promising young necromancer rise to the honored rank of Inquisitor, only for him to come crashing into another gifted mage fifteen years later. The world a little darker, a little colder, and their enemies hauntingly the same.

This Inquisitor — the Herald of Andraste Herself, if the accounts were to be believed — was a singular woman, tales of her adventures reaching far North even to Nevarra, where Emmrich called home. A mark on her left hand, bright as a star in the deep green hues of the Fade, with magic strong enough to seal the Breach and the rifts dotting the South. The Mourn Watch understood the gravity of these rifts, many of the same tears also appearing within the halls of the Grand Necropolis, disturbing the resident spirits. Even poor Manfred had turned restless!
Thus, when a letter arrived, penned in the elegant script of the Inquisition’s ambassador, requesting for a teacher, what else was Emmrich to do but jump at the chance to examine the mark up close? To learn from her as much as she would learn from him?

A year ago, Varric Tethras, acclaimed author released the first book in a new series starring a grumpy but highly competent human warrior, and a dwarven rogue. The fans went wild for it. An engaging tale they said, the slow burn, the highly sophisticated smut - what more could we, his fans want?
The critics ripped it apart. So cliche'd they pointed out. They get stuck in a cave which leads to an abandoned Thaig and have to find their way out due to a rockfall. Together, of course, which makes them grow closer. So… predictable.
Either way, this original manuscript containing the first draft outline of the prologue goes under the hammer this evening and is sure to bring in a huge sum.
