He’d been fine enough at the beginning, too focused on the promise of a lucrative reward to really retain what had lead to the job and the offer and the agreement and the so-where-is-this-guy and the leave-it-to-us-sir, not noticing the jolt of neon hair in the polaroid held between Nene’s fingers, not noticing the look she’d given him after he’d offered to go to the location himself, not bothering to ask the who and the why until he’s raising his loaded semi-automatic and aiming it at something decidedly, nauseatingly, gut-wrenchingly blue.

This shouldn’t have happened.
This never should’ve happened. Noelle shouldn’t have been forced to kill an entire city’s worth of Darkners. She shouldn’t have been forced to cast a spell that froze Berdly solid into a thick crystal of ice. Berdly shouldn’t be lying here lifelessly.
They can do something about at least one of these things. They need to get him to the hospital.

In the aftermath of Snowgrave, Kris rips out the SOUL lodged inside them and leaves through the window to try and fix at least some things. This includes shambling across the town to get Berdly, still-unconscious in the computer lab, somewhere safe.
Kris's terrible awful no-good very bad night; set in Chapter 2 but written with the insight obtained in Chapter 4 of Kris being the one to bring Berdly to the hospital.
