Hakos Baelz is a bored investigative journalism major who is, perhaps all to eager to roll with the punches. When her friend tells her about an eccentric millionaire buying up an abandoned property, Bae can't help being curious. Sure, the expression is curiosity killed the cat, but the rest of it states that information brought it back. And Bae's not a cat, anyways. But the house is not all that it seems. Teleporting maids, ominous shadows and one apparently magical millionaire are just a few of the things waiting for Bae in tthat maze of a mansion. Fifteen years ago, the Second Impact radically altered the climate of Planet Earth. In the blink of an eye, three billion people perished, consumed in a sudden surge of natural disasters, as seas boiled and skies fell. The world, as it had been known up until that point, had ended--and for the new world that crawled, furtive and half-formed, out of its ashes, there was a need for a new testament, a gospel of the new age.

Ikari Yui, the Third Child. Age fourteen, and fresh on the field to pay, once again, for the sins of her father. Once, Shinji defied Gendo in his grief, and rejected Instrumentality. It’s an issue. A big one.
Because if Kafka gets this role, then the ghost becomes flesh. The phantom gets a call sheet, a trailer, a wardrobe rack, and three months of shared scenes and early mornings and Yao Guang’s terrifyingly intimate notes on eye contact. If Kafka gets this role, Himeko will have to stand across from her every single day and pretend that the last five years did not leave a strange little bruise somewhere beneath her ribs.

It’s almost ironic, really—that the first thing she saw when her vision returned days later was the very expression she’d secretly hoped to see: Lauma’s relief, soft and unguarded, painted in the light of an early morning sun.
“What’s the damage?” Nefer had demanded, not daring to look in a mirror yet.
And Lauma only chuckled, shaking her head. “Absolutely nothing. You’re perfect.”
