In the Kingdom of Hawkins, Prince Mike (a one) had a difficult choice to make. Thousands had applied for The Selection and twenty candidates were chosen. It was out of those twenty that he would have to choose the person he would marry. The person who he would have to trust to support him. Too bad Mike didn't want any of it.
For Will Byers, a five, The Selection was a pipe dream. He knew he would never win, would never even get chosen. But if it meant giving something back to his family, after all they had done for him, well he would try anything once. Even if that meant giving up his chance to find true love.
For those lucky enough to be selected, it’s the chance of a lifetime. For Will, he just wants to be selected so he and his family can become threes and they can finally stop worrying about money. Everyone knows The Selection is rigged. Will knows he won’t find real love. Right?

“Okay,” Mike said slowly, trying to keep his voice calm, “we’ll figure it out step by step. No pressure. I’ll… I’ll help you practice control, see how far you can go without, you know, frying the house.”
Will peeked up at him, just enough to see the shy smile tugging at Mike’s lips. “I… I don’t even know if that’ll work,” he admitted, voice soft. “What if it doesn’t? What if it just keeps happening?”
Mike shook his head firmly. “It will work. And if it doesn't, we’ll find something else. We always do.”
Will’s lips quirked in the faintest hint of a smile. “You’re right. We always do.”
Mike leaned forward, careful not to crowd him, “First we need to try to find a way to turn the lights back on. Reverse what you did. Do you think you can–” He gestures towards Will’s crotch, a blush crossing his cheeks, “--Go again?”OR: Will finds himself unable to control his new powers when he gets aroused. Every time he gets "excited," strange things happen with the power. He tries to convince himself it's a coincidence, but when he finishes, and the power goes completely out, he begins to panic.
His panic takes him straight to Mike's window, and Mike offers a helping hand. In a best friend way, of course. -

For a brief second, everything freezes. A devilish grin plays at the man’s lips. In that instant, Will knows with absolute certainty that this isn’t Mike. He knows Mike’s expressions like the back of his hand - a little goofy at times, endearing, always genuine in a way that made Will’s heart ache. This… This is something else. A grin that’s more mischievous. Magnetic. Will can’t tear his eyes away as the man approaches the bar."
