    At some point between getting home and finding the mess in the kitchen, Shane calls the police and his parents in quick succession.

    He doesn’t remember those phone calls at all. Blocked them from his memory the second they were over—doesn’t know what he said, what his mother replied—what the operator on the other of the line asked him.

    The only proof he has of ever placing the calls is the record of them in his phone—neatly stack over-on-another. 911 right below Mom.

    Below that, a series of phone calls to Ilya (husband), some barely even twenty seconds long, just short little I love you’s and what juice did you say you wanted from the store’s. Shane actually has to scroll for a while before he finds any other number in his call log. 

    If Shane were to add all of that data into an excel sheet he’d have proof that Ilya took up about 90% of his call records and yet it doesn’t feel like enough.

    He’ll blame it on Cliff not texting him back since he’d signed with Ottawa. He’ll blame it on Sveta, face pulled into a perpetual frown during every facetime call.

    Rookie Roz has fucking nothing on the self-destructive bastard that spawns in the fall of 2016.

    The demon that has swapped places with Cliff's best friend has one goal, and that is seemingly to kill the body it has stolen. The CGM app looks like a goddamn mountain range, and for the entire first two weeks after The Breakup Cliff is waking up several times a night to call Roz and get him to deal with the high or low that he’s trying to sleep through.

    And then the notifications stop.

    Recovery isn't linear.
    Knowing this, and believing it, are two different things.

    Shane moves to Ottawa, ready to finally spend time with his soulmate, properly. Maybe the excitement is why he doesn't always notice.

    Ilya wins the Cup with Shane at his side, but it doesn't matter as much as it should have. Not when his body hurts and his mind is fragile and he feels one moment away from collapse.

    Timeline goes back and forth, but we start off one year after the events of the previous story.
    In the end, everything will be okay.
