And as the wave of rage washes over him, fierce and ever-sharp, he catches sight of it: the darkness that has been tearing him away closing all around him, suffocating him. Furious, heartbroken, he tries to scream, and as he does the lines of code choking him begin to glow the dull red of hot metal. He tears at them with his hands, ripping them away; they cling to his body like spiderwebs, growing ever brighter.Phainon is faintly aware of Mydei shouting, but that is happening somewhere else. Here, in the dark, he sees only one thing: a single line of blinking red code that makes his blood freeze solid.

Summary
Phainon chose to disappear because he loved them.
