    Summary

“Well,” is what Aglaea says at last. “This is certainly… a predicament.”

Her voice is as unreadable as ever, so it could mean anything from this is manageable to this is a disaster the likes of which the Flame-Chase Journey will never recover from. As things stand, Mydei is more inclined to believe the latter.

Beside them, Tribbie finally pops up from where she’s been studying their joined hands. “What Snowy said is true!” she proclaims in a voice far too cheerful for their current situation. “He and De are one hundred percent stuck to each other.”

While out on patrol, Mydei and Phainon get hit with a curse that binds their hands together.

The one where Phaidei get their hands stuck together... this captures everyone's voice so well, it makes the world so alive that I forgot it was a video game and felt like it was always a full story like this.

    Summary

When Mydei wakes up at entry hour, it’s to thirty texts and ten missed calls, all from Phainon.

“Mydei,” Phainon’s voice says, somehow managing to slur the consonants. “Mydei you… you wouldn’t—woah. Woah. Everything is—is—” A raucous round of laughter drowns out Phainon’s voice. “Mydei,” Phainon says again. “You wouldn’t be… belieeeve—” He stretches the word out like it’s some kind of competition. “Cipher just—Cipher just told me the craziest—it’s so—it’s really, um. It’s crazy. I’m—I’m—” The message stops.

Mydei pulls his teleslate from his ear to stare at it. This isn’t the first time Cipher has dragged Phainon to an ouzeri to get him blackout drunk.

Phainon disappears after a night of drinking with Cipher. Mydei, in search of their usual morning spar, goes looking for him only to find a strange dromas instead.

    Summary

This time, Phainon doesn’t tense, but he does say, “We’re on the same side, but it’s not as if you treat me like a friend.” Mydei does, in fact, treat Phainon like a friend, but their expectations for friendship are clearly very, very different. “And now we’re naked, in the baths, and you’ve got your hands half an inch from my dick.”

“Are you always so preoccupied with the proximity of my hands to your dick?” Mydei asks. Phainon makes the same sort of sound you’d hear from a wet cat. Mydei choses to ignore it. “I’m not going to touch you anywhere but your leg.”

Even though he wants to. Even though he’s wanted to for quite a long time.

Phainon injures his leg while training, and Mydei tends to it.

    Summary

There’s a strange kind of relief to this catharsis — to allowing himself the freedom to feel, every instance of bereavement and the crippling fear of loneliness erupting towards the surface. The part that really gets him though? Knowing he’d do this for Ratio. He’d do worse — raze an entire planet to ash, plunge it into darkness, all for this man who says Aventurine’s name like he’s an equal. The way he reads through Aventurine’s bullshit; who rolls his eyes whenever Aventurine gets too charming, too smug, and still has the gall to talk strategy with him as though his opinion matters.

Aventurine is done pretending it’s anything but love.

(In which Aventurine will raze planets to dust to keep Ratio safe.)

so, call me a saint by liuterine

The one where Ratio gets kidnapped and Aventurine is not happy about it.

so well written. deep characterization. interesting worldbuilding. vivid description. what's important is what goes unsaid.

    Summary

“You’ll gamble away your entire life ten times over without batting an eye…”

“Yeah, well.” Aventurine laughed briefly, helplessly, as the look in Ratio’s eyes shifted towards one of growing comprehension— and maybe even a bit of flabbergasted awe. “Even I have my limits, I guess. Don’t, ah… read too much into it.” As if that would keep Ratio from immediately formulating whatever theories he pleased.

Am I truly so precious to you? He could read the question in Ratio’s face. His bafflement. It was warranted, whatever questions Ratio might have of him. But he didn’t really want to talk right now.

Moaning, on the other hand… now that was on the table.

    Just perfect characterization...
They actually like each other in this fic while still being themselves. Honest and romantic.
