Summary
Shen Qingqiu had been certain, the night before, as he’d let himself drift, that he would never wake again. Instead, he was awake. He could feel sunlight on his face. He had all his limbs, and the bed was soft, and there was no pain save, perhaps, the deep, pleasant burn of muscles well-exercised.
And there was a hand touching him.
After his death as Luo Binghe’s prisoner, the original Shen Qingqiu wakes up in Scum Villain’s universe, in the same body Shen Yuan trasmigrated into. A body Shen Yuan has not vacated.Faced with a world in which all it took for his sect to thrive, for Yue Qingyuan to live and for Luo Binghe to avoid turning into the scourge of the realms was for someone to take his place and live his life in his stead, Shen Jiu finds himself having to confront old hurts, his own accountability and the inevitability of human (and demonic) nature.

This essay is a very close look at Meng Yao's courtesy name, Jin Guangyao. This name is quite unique in MDZS in that Meng Yao is one of the two characters who receives a courtesy name during the course of the novel. Furthermore, Meng Yao receives a courtesy name not just as a matter of tradition or custom, as the other characters do, but specifically to mark his entrance to the cultivational world: his adoption into the Jin family and acceptance into the Lanling Jin sect. We also can make a pretty good guess as to who selected the name for him, Jin Guangshan, who we all know is Canon's Worst Dad. We also have a lot of information about the social upheaval during which Meng Yao was named Jin Guangyao; important, because sect politics almost certainly played a large role in Meng Yao being adopted in the first place.
And all of this is reflected in the three characters of ‘Jin Guangyao.’
