The body beneath Candy Apple stopped moving suddenly, before hiking her up further onto his back. “Candy Apple? You awake?”
“Mhm,” She muttered back, tired. She kinda wanted to go back to sleep, but had too many questions. “What’s goin’ on? Why am I on your back? My leg hurts. You smell like blood. Why are we in the forest? Can I get down now? Where are we—?”

Pure Vanilla frowned. "I'm simply asking for a walk, is that too much?"
Shadow Milk groaned. When was the last time he'd needed to explain this? Thousands of years ago? Black Sapphire and Candy Apple were intuitive enough to pick it up on their own (though they were his minions so they hardly counted).
"Nilly, I need you to think of aaany time you've found me walking. I'll wait."
Another pause. A gasp, and the loosening of hands. "You can't walk?"
"Mh, something like that."
Or Shadow Milk has a chronic illness that he maybe didn’t specify.
