However little may be known of the feelings or designs of such a woman, on her first arrival in a sector still raw from the war, this truth is so firmly fixed in the mind of the keeper of a safehouse that she is at once considered the rightful property of one or another of the keeper’s schemes — and, by extension, of one or another of the discharged men beneath her roof, who have no fortune but their own faces and a bounty written against each.

They call them the graveyarders.
