    "I've never had the opportunity."

"And here I am, the opportunity," James says, not bothering to hide the absolute delight that is shining out of him.

    Summary

Professor Horace Slughorn, the slimy Potions master and founder of the exclusive Slug Club, has long preyed on ambitious Slytherin boys. Luring them into his elite circle with firewhisky, flattery, and Ministry promises before dropping to his knees to satisfy his gluttonous hunger under the guise of mentorship.

Tom Marvolo Riddle appears the ultimate prize: brilliant, composed, an orphan seemingly without protection. Slughorn mistakes quiet patience for yielding and subtle smiles for consent, pouring more liquor and pressing closer in blind greed.

He never senses the salt waiting in Tom’s veins, sharp, patient, and utterly lethal to anything swollen with overindulgence. Every slobbering advance and every wet, desperate plea only scatters more of it until one fatal taste melts the slug away.

    Summary

For Sherlock, the world had narrowed to a series of high-definition fragments. The amber flicker of candlelight as it was caught in the condensation of his glass as he turned it; the scrape of his father’s fruit knife against a pear; the tilt of James’ curls as he studied Sherlock’s parents.

How James’ fingers were dangerously close to brushing Sherlock’s own.

    Summary

James didn’t see fit to dignify him with a response this time, instead leaning in to whisper something into the woman’s ear which had her erupting in giggles. It was a shrill, unfavourable sound, and Sherlock thought he may just combust if he were forced to listen to it a moment longer. He grabbed James by the arm and wrenched him from the woman, who let out an over-exaggerated gasp before almost immediately moving on to the next half-drunk target when she realised James wouldn’t be returning.
“Agh, what the— Sherlock!” James hissed, pawing uselessly at his vice-like grip as Sherlock made a beeline for the small door he’d noticed on the way in. Taking a quick look to ensure they weren’t being observed, he swung the door open and shoved James through, following and closing the door with a click behind them.

Or, Sherlock gets annoyed when James is distracted with the dancers instead of looking for Silas. James takes it upon himself to show Sherlock what distraction really means.
