I just assumed you’d been… put up for auction, when a groom was requested in the place of a bride. That you had no earnest, physical interest in men. Or if you did, that I was out of your age bracket. Which is acceptable. I have less than no interest in traumatizing you, or anyone, with my attentions.”
It was beginning to sink in for Jaskier that maybe, just maybe, he had in fact been joined in holy matrimony with a perfectly lovely man.

Ilya’s short laugh is genuine. “No, I mean – why did you come to Vancouver? It’s your day off, no?”
or: Shane can't stop thinking about Ilya's reserved seats always being empty, so he jumps on a plane to be there. It does things to Ilya. Turns out that they both have far too many feelings about being there for each other, and sometimes the only way they can communicate that is through messy sex.

To Ilya’s horror, Shane’s big doe eyes are glassy when he drops his hands back to his lap. Ilya’s heart drops to his stomach.
“No, no moya lyubov, no sorries.” Ilya straightens up and rushes to stand by Shane’s side. He cannot stand the sight of a teary-eyed Shane Hollander. Ilya cradles Shane’s face in his hands delicately, thumbs brushing over freckles that have darkened beautifully over the course of the past week spent in the sun. “Ya tebya lyublyu, Shane. I love you, yes? It is never chore to take care of you. You are feeling overwhelmed; I want to help. Is my duty as boyfriend, sweetheart.”
Or: Shane is still riddled with anxiety after coming clean to his parents. Luckily for him, Ilya is dedicated to the art of unraveling Shane Hollander.
