Which was why, when Kaveh finally lifted his head, gaze averted, and whispered his next question, Alhaitham didn’t think twice before responding.
“What do you think about mating?”
“Mating?” Alhaitham let out a small snort, offering a shrug. “I don’t see the purpose. It’s just a biological whim to unnecessarily tie someone down to another person and surrender to societal norms and expectations.”Little did he know how that warmth he basked himself in so far would vanish in an instant.

Summary
It was only two weeks, nothing bad could happen, right? But the situation escalated so slowly that no one noticed until it was too late.
Kaveh had to leave for two weeks on an assignment, and the academy knew from experience that the great sage functioned because he had an anchor that kept him calm. When Kaveh was gone for two weeks, everything turned upside down.
The statues in the lobby didn't return to their places, the coffee supply ran out, and 25 students cried in the first five days.

“Are you sure you have the right person?” he asked, mouth gaping. “Kaveh Paradisaea?”
“Yes, sir. Did you not apply for the position of secretary here at the Akademiya?”
“I did.” He cleared his throat. “Yes, I did, my apologies. I wasn’t under the impression that my interview had gone that well.”
“Mr Alhaitham was impressed by your honesty, directness, and succinctness,” the cheery voice replied. “He said this was exactly what he was looking for.”
