    Summary

Hua Cheng finally finds his god after six centuries of searching, but something is wrong. He’s not sure what, but he’ll be there every step of the way while he recovers.

Xie Lian escaped the coffin, but his mind feels slow to react or recall. Words and social manners feel harder to reach than usual. He’ll get there eventually though, he always does. Especially since for some reason a patient ghost seems especially attached to helping him.

    Summary

“The pain in gege’s chest…” Hua Cheng finally met Xie Lian's gaze. “Is it related to that night at the Temple of the Crown Prince?”

“En." Xie Lian clutched his chest. "I have always lived my life to help those who cannot help themselves. But that night...Bai Wuxiong took it to an extreme. When I was held down and tied up, I had truly lost my title, and identity. I was no longer a prince, or a god. From then on, I had always seen myself differently.”

Hua Cheng knelt, his voice soft but filled with resolve. “That night...this one failed you. I couldn't protect you. So I beg Dianxia—as your husband, and most devoted believer, let us do whatever it takes to help you heal from this spiritual wound. If that night stole you of your godhood, I want to help you reclaim it."

Though Hua Cheng didn’t need to breathe, a shaky exhale escaped him.

“This one…wants to help you see the god and prince you truly are.”

Hua Cheng wants to help Xie Lian regain his autonomy as god and prince of Xianle. But after seeing Xie Lian in his old prince robes, he falls into a space that makes both of them see each other differently, for better or for worse...

    Summary

“Good morning, Dianxia,” Hua Cheng murmured, a hint of a smile returned to him by his own image in the mirror. He put down the brush next to the ornate pyxis of cinnabar clay and thoroughly checked his reflexion.

The flex of his fingers on the mahogany handle of the brush, the drag of the bristles on his skin, the scrape of the lid encrusted with mother of pearl against the edges of the box as he closed it and the smear of rouge the movement always left on his fingertips were moments repeated slowly morning by morning, each a step in the ancient ritual of making himself worthy of his God’s gaze. The water that flowed through the fibers on the head of the brush ran tainted red as a blood sacrifice and the incense on Xie Lian’s altar burned.

or: Hua Cheng prays to Xie Lian every day, sharing ordinary moments and heartfelt confessions with the beloved that cannot hear him.
Coming out of the coffin in Yong'An Xie Lian starts to hear the loving and harrowing prayers of a devoted ghost.
