A unplanned road trip strands Robert and Chad in the desert after the Firebird breaks down miles from anywhere. With night closing in Robert begins to realize Chad isn't afraid of being stranded.
───☄─·✵·─☄───Nyctophobia — fear of the dark. Of spaces where nothing can be seen and every sound feels wrong. Fear sharp enough to make the fire spark, and the lingering dread of accidentally hurting someone just trying to get close.
───☄─·✵·─☄───The first sign was the sound.
A hitch in the V8's rumble. Small, barely there. Robert felt it through the bench seat before he heard it, a vibration that didn't match the road. The engine caught briefly and Chad checked the dash and nothing flagged, the gauges holding steady.
It came through the whole car, a tremor that started under the hood and traveled backward through the frame, rattling the rearview mirror and buzzing through the bench seat into Robert's spine. The engine note dropped and caught and dropped again, and the RPM needle twitched with it.
The Firebird shuddered harder and the engine coughed, flat and mechanical, and the speedometer began to slide, eighty down to seventy-five down to seventy.

It was like he was ten years old again here, sobbing, angry. Unable to control the fires around him no matter who they could hurt. No matter how much he deserved their ire instead. No, the only thing he felt confident in now was that his skin would still not burn. But God, would he have paid anything for it to do so.
Robert and Flambae are in trouble after a mission gone wrong and powers run on empty.

Summary
In his sleep, Robert appears- for once in his life- like he’s not stressed to hell and back. The frown lines on his forehead are smooth and lax, and even the exhausted bruises that paint the skin below his eyes a sickly purple seem diminished in the soothing glow of Chad’s bedside lamp. He’s still scruffy and unfortunately clothed in that hideous uniform, but all that does is add to the reality of Robert being here, safe and comfortable in Chad’s bed.
Without even realizing he’s doing it, Chad reaches out and smooths his hand over the messy puff of Robert’s hair. The other man hums quietly and turns towards the warmth of his palm, and Chad flinches back like he’s somehow, impossibly, been burned. Robert’s face creases into that oh-so familiar frown as if Chad’s touch was wanted in the first place, and a spike of longing spears through him.

Robert wasn’t too fond of Valentines Day, he wasn’t totally against the holiday or anything like that, he tolerated it at best, but it wasn’t something he personally partook in. That is until Flambae came along.

Flambae saunters over to Robert’s cubicle and perches on the edge of his desk, arms crossed over his very much exposed chest. “Bob-Bob, you on patrol tonight?”
“Hello to you to, Chad.” Robert teases, leaning back in his seat, on hand rests on the arm of his chair, the other gently lands on Flambae’s knee. His thumb rubs light circles around the joint.
Flambae rolls his eyes fondly. “Yeah, yeah, hello Bob-Bob, are you on patrol or not?”
“I am, won’t be home until late, around eleven I think.” Robert replies, his hand moving up Flambae’s leg to his inner thigh. It wasn’t inherently sexual, just a motion Robert did frequently to ground himself or keep Flambae close.
Flambae hums thoughtfully, tapping his bicep. “Hm, I’m not waiting up for your dumbass then. Enjoy your patrol, Mecha Bitch.”

Summary
Robert, upon waking, is in an undeniable amount of pain due to the weather outside exacerbating a life of ignoring his body's needs. He needs more sleep, or pain killers, or Chad to wrap himself around him and be his living, breathing, heat therapy blanket. Chad's loving embrace is hot in every sense of the word as he takes very, very good care of his partner.
“The prize…” Chad repeated, briefly distracted by kissing at a freckle just under the edge of Robert’s jaw. He nibbled on it for good measure, drawing a soft moan from his partner, before continuing. “Mm, the prize is you get to have my amazing body however you wish it.” Robert heard the unspoken caveat of how it could be anything, as long as it wouldn’t hurt him.
“So, things as usual?” Robert teased. It was worth it for Chad grumbled at him as he nipped at the knob of his spine, the pain beautifully sharp and achingly brief compared to the rest of his aches and pains. Something about it being intentional made the throb of it… sweet in its sting.

Summary
He comes back with gauze and disinfects the split skin on his knuckles. Flambae himself is hardly injured, aside from a few bruises Robert supposes he is going to wear proudly. He doesn't even sit next to him, he stands there in front of the couch, wrapping gauze around his hand with just enough care to stay on, but messy enough to show that he isn't doing this for him.
Robert sucks his lower lip between his teeth for a moment, but it's not enough to keep himself from stating what he had been thinking ever since Flambae rejoined the team. “You're still mad at me.”~Robert has an opportunity to spend some one-on-one time with Flambae. From then on, it spirals out of control.
