Summary
Peter, a proud, freshwater mer, wakes up in a facility specially designed for treating and managing injured mythical creatures. Desperate to go home, he's outright aggressive towards the humans that try to help him... until one handler, a tall, lanky man by the name of Herman, decides to actually make an effort to make Peter feel comfortable in captivity.
As Peter learns more about Herman and slowly heals from a fishing boat's attempt at trafficking him, he starts to realise he may have more in common with humans than he originally thought. Well, more in common with one particular human, anyway.
TW: Peter is kidnapped, treated, and held against his will while he heals, however Herman does his best to make it as comfortable as possible for him!

Summary
Uncle Ben's death and the spider bite occured within the span of a few weeks for poor Peter. That, his gender identity struggles, and Aunt May struggling to put food on the table sent him off the rails, leading him to crime in an attempt to help pay the bills.
He's been given a second chance: to make up for completing his prison sentence, he can join an experimental "phoenix program" which aims to rehabilitate criminals.

Summary
For Soap, getting to a more stable and secure place since a near fatal accident eight years ago has been slow and gruelling, but he finally feels like he can work towards a life worth living and enjoying. He's got a strong support network, his own place, and can even muster up the courage to take the bus to work sometimes.
Ghost is taking forced sick leave from the 141 and doesn't have a problem with drinking or letting others in. Price allowing him to return to the 141 hinges on him seeing a therapist for all his baggage and reigning in his alcohol use. Ghost begrudgingly attends an AA meeting one fateful Saturday evening after an awful day in military logistics, and is curious how one John MacTavish has managed to stay sober for the last two years.
Meanwhile, Roach just wants to make sure his idiot best friend stays sober and doesn't go around fixing others and neglecting himself.

Summary
Peering at him across the floor, Herman can imagine the soft cadence of Robert's voice in each reply. The gravel at the edge of his words, the sighs of exasperation or amusement, the rumble of his chest when he laughed. He liked it— the noises that Robert made. A nice thing to latch on to during stressful missions or trips to overly loud dive bars. So easy for Herm to pick out of a crowd and follow along.
It was even nicer then that Herman still had the memory of Robert's voice, breathy and wanting, ringing in his ears.

Or, Herman finds out that talking about his anxiety can come in handy sometimes.
