Summary
On the night Voldemort attacks Godric’s Hollow, Harry Potter’s magic burns itself nearly silent to protect his twin, Charlus. When Albus Dumbledore tests Harry afterward and declares his core empty, James refuses to accept that his son is a Squib. Lily, afraid and already listening too closely to Dumbledore, begins to believe Harry will only distract them from the child the world has decided to call its savior. While James fights to keep both of his sons, Lily and Albus move behind his back. Harry is taken to the Dursleys, hidden beneath a Fidelius with Lily as Secret Keeper, and James returns to find his son’s nursery empty.

"He apologised," Severus repeated, "for being hungry."
Dumbledore's shoulders seemed to sag. "Severus..."
"No." Years of bitterness sat behind that single word.
"I buried Lily because I failed her once." His black eyes never left Dumbledore's.
"I will not fail her son." Outside, thunder rolled across the Scottish Highlands. Neither man noticed.
Far below the castle...
Ancient magic stirred.

Summary
Harry walked through the Forbidden Forest, mind numb, still shaken by what he had seen in Snape’s memories. He stumbled over unseen roots and dips in the ground, but kept moving forward.
As he drew near, he folded the cloak under his shirt. Placed his wand up his sleeve and dropped the stone in his pocket, not being able to bring himself to let go of the scant comfort of his loved ones being near.
‘I was, it seems . . . mistaken,’ said Voldemort.
‘You weren’t.’

When Harry appears in the Limbo of Kings Cross, this time he is not alone. Voldemort appears with him, but it is the Voldemort Harry remembers from the Diary. Instead of a dead Dumbledore however, they are approached by a figure in black.
‘Ah, my boys,’ came a disembodied voice, cold and rasping across their senses. ‘Finally I have you both here before me.’
Harry stared at the black figure in front of him. He glanced at Tom and saw the fear in the boy. ‘You would be Lord Death then?’ he asked calmly. ‘Lovely to meet you finally.’
