Martin is a blacksmith. A quiet man with rough hands and too much silence. He’s lived alone at the edge of town, counting strikes against the anvil, naming all his favourite tools.
Then, a boy washes up on his doorstep during a tempest. Martin takes him in.
The boy is beautiful. Barefoot. Unsettlingly kind. He listens to the forge fire like it’s singing. He's curious. Strange. Also, possibly a god.
Martin does not have time for any of this, or for feelings, or the sudden all-consuming urge to be known. In fact, he tries very hard not to care, which works right up until the boy starts smiling at him like he hung the very cosmos, touching everything like it’s hallowed, and sleeping at the foot of his wingback like a stray cat. There’s tragic history Martin won’t talk about, a temple that won’t stay quiet, and a wish the boy doesn’t remember (until he does).

Kurama narrows his eyes in that shortsighted, competitive way of his and smirks. "In that case, I demand you play a match with me. It's been far too long since I've played against someone new."

He crosses his arms to more openly demonstrate his displeasure. “Do not mistake my dubiety for stupidity,” he admonishes in that snappish little tone that Kohga inexplicably lets Sooga get away with. “This enterprise seems too risky to hazard for the sake of spiting the Gerudo chief alone. You would best have a more practical reason before coming to me and saying you want to steal the Thunder Helm.”
