Summary
2:58 p.m.
Michael:
Good, I'm glad.
You don't look nearly as hungover as you should.Dennis flushes, biting his lip to stop himself from grinning at his phone like a maniac. What does he mean by that? That's a compliment, right? Dennis can't see how it isn't.
He wonders if Michael is going to save that photo to his phone. No, no, no. Dennis puts an immediate end to that ridiculous train of thought. Why would Michael save a poorly-taken selfie from his hungover med student? What in the world would he do with that?
2:59 p.m.
Dennis:
the camera must be glitching then
trust me, it's badDennis knows, of course, that Michael doesn't think of him... well, romantically. So if he lightly flirts with Michael sometimes, that's just for Dennis's own enjoyment. And torture.
Dennis and Michael continue to text each other more and more as interview season for residency programs rapidly approaches.

Summary
Dennis's words climb back up. "You just… you assume things, you make decisions, you act like you know what's best for everyone—"
Robby's gaze is fixed on him. Dennis's broad shoulders are coiled tight; there’s an angry, pink flush creeping up his neck; his long fingers keep clenching into fists and unclenching at his sides.
"—and you don't even see how fucking condescending that is, how it makes me feel like I'm— like I'm not even a person to you, just some project—"
Robby watches Dennis unwravel under the weak spill of the streetlight filtering in through the window, his curls flashing copper and gold, his voice hoarse and furious and he knows he should calm him down, shout back, beg for forgiveness.
But he can't.
He's never seen anything more beautiful.or: robby comes back from his sabbatical to find dennis whitaker absolutely furious with him. this is, unexpectedly, not the worst thing that's ever happened to him

Summary
After a stranger mistakes them for a couple, Michael and Dennis are forced to confront a problem neither of them can seem to shake: they really are that close.
Between crowded shifts, near misses, lingering touches, and one very bad day that leaves Michael openly protective, the line between habit and want starts to blur. The more they try to ignore it, the more obvious it becomes—to them and to everyone around them.

Summary
“I put in 1095, but it won’t turn off!” Dennis shrieks, trying to be heard over the sound of the alarm. He knows that he didn’t get the numbers wrong because he’s staring right at them on the crumpled sticky note. “What am I doing wrong?”
“Did you push the off button?”
Dennis looks at the keypad, not seeing anything that says Off. “What?!”
“Put the code in and push the pound sign after.”
Dennis does as he’s told, except, in his panic, he hits the asterisk instead. “Shit.”
“It’s the hashtag,” Robby says, sounding entirely put out.
“I know what a pound sign is,” Dennis grumbles, hitting the button and noticing the word Off in the smallest font known to man under the #.
