Summary
Robert knew this was a bad idea.
Because this was Z team– incapable of shutting the fuck up, for even one second. Word was going to get around.
Just like it had earlier; the whole reason he was even entertaining such stupid, petty, jealousy.
–Because that’s what this bitter feeling inside him was; not the bite of his whiskey going down empty, but the acid reflux of his own bitter emotions threatening to come back up, and stain the table a nauseating green.
Waterboy sputtered, but didn’t attempt to deny Prism's statement. This caused more laughter from the team, and teasing that lasted the last hour of shift. An hour of Robert having to sit there and listen to them talk about Herman getting hot and sweaty with some fucking guy, while attempting to remain detached the whole time.
So he sat back, and didn’t say much of anything; hoping that when the clock ran out, that would be the last time he’d ever have to endure it.
The instigators had thought it would be so funny to bring everyone to that same club after work today. Like they were hoping for a round two.
Well fuck– if they wanted a round two, he’d give them a round two. He’d give Waterboy a show.

“What made you cut it?” Robert glances at him from the corner of his eye, a playful grin tugging the corner of his lips.
“Wet wavy hair is even w-worse to deal with when it’s l-long.”
“Did you like it though? I mean– do you ever miss having long hair?”
Herman thinks about it for a minute, before shaking their head. “Not really. I kind of like where my hair is right now; it’s easy to mana– work with; not too long, and n-not too short.”
Robert nods, reaching up to smooth his fingers up the nape of Herman’s neck, the damp, red curls soft under his calloused hands. Herman shivers, leaning slightly into Robert’s touch. “I think I like it this length too. But if you did change it, I’d probably like that too, though I might be a little biased, since it’s you.”
Herman feels warmth blooming brightly in their cheeks; he redirects the conversation to give himself a bit of reprieve, “W-what about you? Did you ever have long hair?"
Robert frowns, a sort of pained, humorless expression that Herman doesn’t like seeing on his boyfriend’s face. It usually means he’s about to reveal something heartbreaking about himself.

Robert continued, “What qualifies as the best insult? Is it like a scale? Are we putting it to a vote?”
The comms went silent for a moment; bless their little asshole hearts, they were really straining their mind muscles right now.
“That’s a good point– how will we know who’s the winner? We’re likely to vote for ourselves– leaving it a complete standstill.”
Robert rubbed his temple; he didn’t know why he was entertaining it, but– goddamn he was also pretty fucking bored. And color him intrigued.
“Okay, how about this? The winner is the first person who can hurt my feelings, deal?”

But Robert knew no matter how much he wanted it, kindness wasn’t something he, or his stupid, broken down body, deserved.
He pulled away again, averting his eyes self-consciously whenever he remembered why he was really there tonight. The last thing he wanted was for Waterboy to see him like that. To see what the hero that he idolised was really like behind all the smoke and mirrors.
Herman’s smile fell at the same time as his lighter-coloured eyebrows rose, “D-don’t you want to dance-join in?” He glanced around the place where Robert was still leaning against the counter, “You’re all by your-alone.”
Not for long, if I’m lucky, Robert thought bitterly. The ache that had been building in his gut all day felt like a ravenous, gnawing hole now. It twisted something inside of him, made him feel sick and rotten and wrong. And a thousand miles away from the sweet-faced, wetsuit-wearing hero currently giving up his Saturday night to help keep a bunch of villains safe at a crappy metal night.

“E-easy now. Robert, take it eas– it’s okay– you're okay”
Another fist comes swinging in from the right; Herman clumsily grabs it, and now he’s awkwardly holding Robert’s arms as they cross over one another. Robert snarls, this desperate, wounded, noise, as he attempts to shake Herman off.
Herman quickly straddles his waist, untangling Robert’s arms, and forcing them at his sides; he readjusts his weight so that he can pin them down with his thighs.
“Shhh, P-pup…it’s okay. Shhh, it’s me. It’s Hermie….please calm down.”
Even using his softest tone, it’s ineffective as the man struggles beneath him; he’s locked deep in his unconscious. It’s going to take much more drastic measures.

“Well I’ll be damned… this feels too good to be true.”
And it does; Robert isn’t used to surprise gifts– he hasn’t done anything to warrant this. He hates that his immediate response was to throw up his hackles, and try to find any signs of tampering– but it’s not unreasonable for someone like him. He’s Mecha Man; he’s on a lot of people’s shitlist. There’s a lot of people who would mean to do him harm, or at the very least, play a cruel prank on him. He can’t let his guard down, just because he’s a dispatcher now. Being Robert Robertson doesn’t erase the legacy that hangs over his shoulders– the shadow that it casts.

Summary
More protests from the group; throwing casual insults that rolled off his back. At least his back could handle that burden of weight.
Robert sighed, though he could feel the smile fighting his lips. At least they seemed to have gotten distracted by something else. Which meant no one was going to bring up—
“Who wants to bet on why Mecha Man threw out his back?!” Prism asked.

Summary
"Also, I know I didn't have to surprise you with food, but I wanted to. I enjoy cooking; there's something special about cooking for someone you care about. Does that make sense? I don't know…it's just…it's intimate, I guess. It says a lot about how you feel if you can cook someone a meal they enjoy. The 'working with your hands to create memories together'; I've always been a fan of that. Like with music, or poetry, or food; making something that lingers, that preserves."
Dipper hums, his mouth full of omelet and a bunch of emotions in his lungs. “I get it”, he says, “Cooking is; I like it, too, you know. My sister, you remember I told you about Mabel, yes? She uhm, she likes to be experimental in the kitchen, and that mostly means things are inedible. I just like to cook because it’s safe to consume food if I know what’s in it.”
Now, that’s not true. That’s not all there is.
He sets his plate down on the counter next to him. “You’re right. Cooking something for someone you… uhm”, his blush returns with full force but he ignores it as best as he can, “yeah, cooking for someone special is really a different experience."

Summary
Everyone had a role– everyone had a place. Their passionate firestarter. Their kindhearted strongman. Their sharpened woodsman. Their crafty engineer. Their intelligent librarian– On and on. The accomplishments grew and grew, beginning to tower like a treeguard over Wes. It was getting harder to see the top; blinded by the sunbeams of their perfections.
And what did he have?
“Balloons?” Maxwell’s snide voice chided in his ear.
Wes’s shoulders slumped.
No, if he wanted to be of any use to them– he couldn’t just be good at one thing. He had to match their abilities. He had to be as good as all of them.

Hold me close and hold me fast
The magic spell you cast
This is la vie en roseWhen you kiss me, heaven sighs
And though I close my eyes
I see la vie en roseWhen you press me to your heart
I'm in a world apart
A world where roses bloomAnd when you speak, angels sing from above
Everyday words seem to turn into love songsGive your heart and soul to me
And life will always be la vie en rose -

Holly reached forward, grabbing the metal grate. The iron felt warm, almost blistering against her skin, but she ignored it, and pushed the grate open. Leaving no protection between her and the crackling fire.
In the olden times, women of wickedness, or depravity and sin– they were tried as witches, sorceresses tempting the good puritan people. Wicked women, for their transgressions, were hung, drowned, or…burned at the stake. Thrown into the fires where hell would deliver them.

This probably wasn't a good idea. She should just drop the subject while Erin was distracted. After all, what would honestly come from reliving that trauma again? What would Lucy gain from it– other than more guilt?

Dipper had no clue how this conversation started. All he knew was that he didn’t want to be a part of it.
“I mean, Henry in my English class is super cute. He’s got this soft, toffee brown hair, and bright hazel eyes, and the cutest dimples–” Mabel was pacing around his room, ranting about– well her usual culprit; what guy to date.
“Uh-huh,” Dipper mumbled unenthusiastically, flipping to the next page of his reading assignment.

Slowly, he lifts his head, just enough to look through the passenger’s side window. Inside he finds…
“Wirt?” He jumps up, pressing his face against the window, breath fogging up the glass.
Well, he didn’t expect that.
Wirt is sitting in the driver’s seat, chair angled back, eyes closed. He nods along to an invisible beat that Dipper can’t hear from outside the car. His hands are resting comfortably on his stomach, fingers interlocked.
He looks perfectly at peace.
Dipper slaps his hand on the glass, and Wirt’s eyes fly open.

Roxas was in love. And unlike with Xion, unlike how easy it had been--simply to turn to her one day, and ask in between bites of Seasalt Icecream, “Hey, you wanna try dating?” Roxas didn’t think asking the sunshine island that was Sora if he could dock his ship to port--That is to say, ask him to be his boyfriend, not--Well, okay, whatever! Needless to say, it wasn’t going to be nearly as easy.
Roxas needed advice.
...Now if only anyone's advice was actually useful.

Summary
She swung herself until her shoe landed with a soft thump on the window’s sill, and began to pull herself through.
“Hehehe, that tickles~” Came the breathy voice from the bed.
Mabel rolled her eyes. It wasn’t often that her brother would sleep talk, but he had been known to do so in the past, often after days of insomnia. She continued to pull herself through his window, unperturbed, but stopped in her tracks when--
“I can’t help it, when you look like that-- so breathless, so desirable-- I find it hard not to lavish you in sweet surrender. I just want to listen to you laugh forever.”
That was not her brother’s voice!
Mabel froze in place, her eyes widening, face paling. No…no way!
