Viktor stays in the Hexcore chrysalis a few more hours. Jayce stays busy falling into the ravine of an alternate dimension and fighting his way back to his partner so that they can invent something new together: a future.

“What am I?” Viktor asked.
“What do you want to be?” Jayce was bearded and haggard and hopeful.
“Yours,” Viktor said, a memory and a realization both, like it was a truth that was woven into each of his metal and organic molecules.

This is real, he realizes, the whirring of his mind at once intact, thoughts sharp through the fuzz of the technicolor landscape.
He’s younger, a lot younger. He can tell by the lightness in his shoulders, the uninjured strength in his knee. The hexcore, he thinks, before it was destroyed it must have shunted us to another world.
It means many things and one thing: he’s been given a second chance.
Viktor, his mind shouts.

Summary
Jayce was used to the lingering stares; to the lust-filled gazes of strangers; to the whispers and shy giggles of passersby.
His face has been plastered on billboards, airships, mugs and posters that advertised his attractiveness in idolised manners to Piltover, and the world beyond its walls. And with fame came the inescapable knowledge of desire painted in the eyes of others; the awareness of hungry smiles being thrown his way; the acceptance of naughty hands and sly touches over his body.
He was familiar with all of it.
What he wasn't used to, however, was of that desire being directed to his partner.

“I’ll… I'll get you some food,” Jayce said slowly after a moment. “I… it’s really good to see you awake, Viktor.”
I don’t understand, thought Viktor as he gazed at Jayce’s completely open face. How could you feel that way? After everything I've done?
(Jayce and Viktor don't disintegrate when they destroy Viktor's army. Viktor learns what it means to be taken by the hand and dragged into the light, whether he likes it or not.)
