The gateway shimmered in front of him, calling, begging him to take that final step and enter its sweet embrace, finding solace in the freedom it promised. So why did his heart feel so heavy? He deserved this! He fought for this! He was the last one standing! Not Harus, not Gunlaug, not Caster, not even Changing Star, it was HIM! And all it took was one final step.
But... if he left, then Nephis would be left behind. Left behind to face the horrors of the Dream Realm alone. He couldn't leave her to die. Not even that, he didn't want to leave her. With his mind set, he shifted to turn around and leave the gate, but before he could, a panicked voice rang out behind him.
"Lost from Light! Stay! Don't go!"

But one thing was different.
A mask made of black lacquered wood with three twisted horns was resting upon his face. The inheritance of Weaver, master of lies. In the process of Awakening, much like how Awakened automatically activate their Awakened Aspect Ability, the [Where is my eye?] enchantment was activated.
And in doing so, the tendrils of Corruption gripped his soul. His heart was drowned in a sea of darkness, and what arose was a hideous Nightmare Creature. A sentient Shadowspawn. The last human shadow.
This is a Shadow Slave AU where Sunny's encounter with fate goes much worse. He becomes Corrupted and turns into a Nightmare Creature. He will have to grapple with the ravenous nature of Nightmare Creatures, the lonely existence of a monster, and the loss of the first friends he had ever made.
