Summary
After two years of secretly being together, at the peak of their careers, Ling and Orm decided to pause their relationship, promising to pick things up when circumstances were more favourable. Ling moved to Hong Kong for a job that was supposed to keep her away from Thailand for six months. But when she returned, seven years had passed, and their lives had changed in ways they could have never imagined.
Do they still care for one other? Will they find their way back?

The usual disclaimer:
The characters are obviously inspired by LingOrm, and there might be references to real-life events, but the story is purely fictional. This is the fruit of one of my dreams (yep, I actually dreamt about it. Those two are taking over my life-help).English is not my first language, so my apologies for any potential mistakes.
Peace and Love, JKRs :)

Bookmarker's Notes
This, she realized, was the true test of unconditional love – not just basking in the warmth of good times, but standing firm in the face of adversity. It meant weathering the storms of frustration and anger, remaining steady even when pelted by the sharp hail of bitter words. Love, Orm understood now, wasn't just a feeling; it was a choice made every day, especially on days when it felt impossible.
She observed Ling's struggle, each labored movement a reminder of the long road ahead. The urge to rush to her side, to shield her from pain, was almost unbearable. Yet Orm held back, recognizing that sometimes love meant allowing the other person to fight their own battles, to find their strength even when it hurt to watch.
In that moment, Orm felt the full weight of their shared journey – the joy, the pain, the uncertainty, all intertwined in an intricate dance. She realized that loving Ling meant embracing all of it: the tender moments and the harsh ones, the triumphs and the setbacks. It was terrifying and beautiful all at once, much like Ling herself.

Summary
"Orm," Lingling murmured, her voice quieter now, almost a whisper. She leaned forward slightly, her face inches away from Orm's. "Do you want to kiss?"
"Wh-what?" Orm stammered, her voice barely above a whisper.
"You heard me," Lingling said, a smile tugging at her lips. "Do you want to kiss...me?"
Orm’s mind raced. She wanted to say yes. God, she wanted to say yes more than anything. Lingling was beautiful, intoxicating, and in this moment, heartbreakingly human. But then the image of Lingling’s girlfriend flashed in her mind.
"You’re drunk," Orm finally managed, her voice trembling slightly. "You don’t know what you’re saying."
Lingling leaned back, a bitter laugh escaping her. "That’s what everyone says, isn’t it? I’m drunk, so I must not mean it. But what if I do? What if, for once, this is the most honest I’ve ever been?"
Orm didn’t know how to respond. She wanted to believe Lingling, to give in to the pull she felt toward her, but the weight of reality held her back. "You have a girlfriend," Orm said quietly, the words feeling like stones in her mouth.

Summary
Orm is in uncharted territories now. The big leagues if you will. She has black war paint and a halloween store soldier helmet and a heart beating to the sounds of falling bombs. Across the field, she can see her target. Or prize? What do you win in the war of love? The heart your own heart wants? Orm wishes there was a guide book; a how-to; the book of love for dummies.

Bookmarker's Notes
When it comes to Ling, Orm knows if she asks Ling for something, she’ll do it to the best of her ability.
Orm appreciates that more than anything. She appreciates that Ling can prioritize her. So Orm takes that into consideration when things come up and she knows Ling is busy.
She never wants to take Ling away when she has work to do. As much as Orm wants her around, she knows better than to ask despite how much she wants to.
It’s no surprise that Ling knows Orm’s schedule when it doesn’t include her. Orm talks a lot about what she has to do and whines almost incessantly that Ling isn’t a part of it. Ling just laughs and points out all the upcoming things they do have together. It’s not enough Orm would say and pout to the point Ling would sigh with amusement and give her a hug.
So when Ling shows up to things that are important milestones for Orm it makes a mess in her chest. Her heart flutters to a concerning point; stomach in a rumble; eyes stinging with a happiness that is solely for Ling. That’s love; Orm knows that. Platonic or romantic, that’s what it is: love .
Orm knows that really popular quote, the one about love and how it is patient and it is kind. How love does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. How it does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered; it keeps no record of wrongs… Love always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.
Orm knows it and feels it when it comes to Lingling. All of it, every word, is Lingling. Orm, in her heart of hearts, feels that Ling is love personified. How can she not be?
Ling and her words of encouragement and support and love. Ling and her hands that hold, that comfort, that feed. Ling and her quiet way of always being there. Ling and her patience. Ling and her understanding. Ling and her kindness and care. Ling and her calmness. Ling and her humor and laugh and smile and… Ling and Ling and Ling . Oh, special, magnificent, wonderful Ling.
Love - Ling - never demands. Love - Ling - never takes. Love - Ling - sits heavily and lightly in Orm’s heart. It’s a contrasting feeling. It is something that grows and blooms and spreads and Orm feels like she could fly. Stand steady. Like everything could be hers if she lets it.

Summary
Ling laughs, and Orm realizes with a jolt, like a careless hand disturbing the butterflies in her stomach, that this is the first time they've said more than greetings and pleasantries as nothing but themselves. There had been the joint casting that decided it all, but that was it. She'd mourn all the jokes she could've made to make Ling laugh like that, except now, here, it seems like all they have is time. She grins.
Or: Orm never planned to fall in love, but that doesn't mean she regrets it.

Bookmarker's Notes
Ling pulls away only to cup her cheeks. Her smile is no longer there, but Orm can tell she’s looking. Orm holds her hands where they are and adjusts herself on the bench to face her. It’s a little too much, if she’s being honest, and she casts her gaze down for a moment to collect herself. She’s so close, thigh beneath her knee, fingertips brushing against her ear, breath close enough to count. It’s terrifying to sink in a moment like this and let it do what it must. Whether to hurt or soothe, the decision is no longer up to her.
A forehead touches hers ungracefully, a little clumsily. It’s gone too soon, and Orm looks up. Ling smiles something different this time, something honey-dipped and soothing and—maybe—just for her. Orm’s heart unknots itself in response. It swells, and tears leap unbidden to the corner of her eyes, because there’s something achingly tender about all this, like a knife whetted to perfection, splitting her open where she’s softest until all the simplest, deepest, honest things bleed out of her. Ling leans forward as if to promise that it’ll stay between them, as if to give something away in return.
Orm closes her eyes and breathes.
-----
Ling’s eyes have dampened, and Orm tucks her hair behind her ear with a free hand, cupping her cheek and brushing the swell of it preemptively. It’s more instinctual than conscious, but Ling leans into her touch before she can doubt herself. Orm’s heart grows two sizes too big, trying to fit that seventeen-year-old Ling somewhere in her chest. She leans her temple against the back of the couch, and Ling mirrors her until her face rests in Orm’s palm.
This is familiar now, this quiet laden with trust. They’ve done this more than a few times, but this might be the first time Orm finds herself falling into it without needing to keep Earn somewhere in the back of her mind. She stares back at Ling unflinchingly.
-----
She reads the lines, then reads them again. Just to be sure, she asks the director to read them to her.
“Do you have any idea how I feel about you?” The director obliges, reading from the script. “You’ve been in my heart since the first day we met.”
“I understand,” Orm says just to get her to stop, because there’s something fundamentally wrong about hearing it in someone else’s voice. “Okay. Right.”
“Do you have any idea how I feel about you?” She begins as Ira and—secretly, desperately—as Orm. “You’ve been in my heart since the first day we met. Not a day goes by that I forget you.” Something shatters, and all of it pours out. “Not a day goes by that I stop loving you. That’s why I’m doing everything I can to get you by my side, even though I know you don’t love me at all. You don’t love me. You never loved me even for a single day. You don’t—”
Tawan is there so suddenly, lips against hers. The shock she’ll later watch from the monitors is genuine. She fights tooth and nail to keep a hold of Ira, because this hurts.
“Is it too late for me to say I love you?” Tawan asks.
Orm tries not to look for something honest in Ling, because this isn’t her. She fails. Tragically. And—god, god—does it hurt. And she thinks, for the first time, that it’s unfair that Earn and Ira keep getting the happy endings she wants.
-----
(I go nowhere.
That’s what Orm said to her so long ago now. But if that’s so—
Ling gnaws at her bottom lip, still warm from Orm’s touch, a hint of salt from Orm’s tears. Orm had laughed it off, after. She’d pulled away from the hug Ling offered as soon as they received the applause that usually follows emotionally charged scenes. It felt too soon—she didn’t linger as usual, didn’t nuzzle into her hair to relax, didn’t squeeze her too hard before letting go—and that was when Ling remembered: I go nowhere.
Ling stays in the background, watching the busy set, Orm amid it all. It seems so typical, but now that she’s looking, well. There’s something almost manic about the way Orm’s smiling and laughing. Her hands are busy, reaching for people, fiddling with her jeans, or squeezing the crumpled tissue in her fist. She brushes off the compliments like they mean nothing, doesn’t preen like she normally would. It feels wrong, and—Ling thinks she’d taken it for granted, the way Orm has her heart on her sleeves.
A pit opens in her stomach, vast and dark, and in it, every moment she’d decided to dismiss.)
