“So, what do you want in a partner, then?” Buck asked quietly, bright blue eyes seeming to bore into his soul. “To get to know them first, obviously, but after that?”
Eddie sighed, and took a sip of his beer, swallowing noisily before turning back to Buck. “I dunno, someone who...someone who’s there for the good parts, but doesn’t run when things get tough. Someone who would do anything for me, and I’d do anything for them. Someone who would...” He faltered, nervously picking at the label and taking a deep breath. He hadn’t been prepared for this at all, but the way Buck was still staring at him intently, he couldn’t stop the words spilling out of his mouth. “Someone who would dig through six feet of dirt with their bare hands to save me.” Buck’s mouth dropped open slightly, and Eddie felt a warm hand on top of his.
“I didn’t know you knew about that.” He whispered. “How did you know about that?”

"I -" Buck cuts himself off and sucks in a shuddering little breath. "I need to pee."
Warmth blooms in the pit of Eddie's stomach, creeping up his neck and spreading into his face.
"Oh yeah?" Eddie asks, repositioning his weight to put even more pressure on Buck, pushing him down more firmly into the mattress. "Think you can hold it?"

Summary
Buck found himself sitting precariously on their roof, underneath the hot Los Angeles sun. Thank god it stopped raining, Buck had originally thought, but now, after wiping off the sweat from his forehead for the third time, he would've liked a little bit of the cloud cover to sick around. He had barely been out here that long, too! As if Eddie, who was loitering around on solid ground making sure the ladder didn't run away, could sense his discomfort, he gracefully— his words, not Buck's— tossed another water bottle up at Buck.
"You're drinking us out of house and home, Buckley," he teased, barely catching the empty bottle that Buck threw back, because good grief, was he thirsty, and chugged the water bottle in less than a minute— most of it, anyways, he's pretty sure like a tenth of the bottle ended up on his shirt.
"It's hot out here, man," Buck groaned. To his delight, he was finally able to pull up all the soiled shingles, the real fun of the afternoon beginning.
"Sure is hot," Buck could barely hear what Eddie had said, but he did, a shiver creeping up his back at the words. Eddie was definitely not talking about the weather.
