“I cleaned out your closet the other day,” says Lawrence, choosing his words carefully. “I didn’t find the film you were looking for, though.”
“Thanks.” Adam gives him a sheepish smile, then crosses over to the other side of the kitchen, an open carton of heavy cream in one hand. “I would’ve done it myself, but, y’know—”
Adam cuts himself off mid-thought. Cream sloshes past the mouth of the carton, running down the side and onto his hand. Over the course of what can’t be longer than a split second, his expression shifts from blissful unawareness, to dawning realization, to abject horror. His throat bobs. He stands there in place, staring at Lawrence.
Lawrence stares back. “…Yes?” When Adam doesn’t reply, he says, “Put the carton down. You’re going to drop it.”
“Uh.”

It had started out as more of a joke, than anything.
Adam was nothing if not a shit-stirrer, so it had started as a little thrill seeking, to rile Lawrence up at his work function. A touch here, a squeeze there- he could feel Lawrence’s eyes on him all night, and had barely resisted the urge to drag the man off to a bathroom to blow him, sending him back out to his colleagues with Adam’s spit on his spent cock. He had some decorum, though.

Okay, maybe Adam had a thing for doctors.
Sure, he had a thing for Lawrence in general, the man was fucking gorgeous, but the doctor thing was… well. Something about seeing the man still dressed from work, smiling as he stepped through the door, really did it for him. Sure, if he started to unpack it a little he was sure he would find some weird little reason for it, some worrying little memory that would explain this particular hang up, but it was way more fun to just lay back and enjoy it.

Adam hummed, clearly a little distracted– Lawrence heard the distant rustle of fabric over the phone. “You know I adore you.”
“Sap,” Lawrence accused fondly, and was rewarded with a gentle chuckle. “What’re you up to now?”
The slightest pause. “I’m– I’m just in my bedroom.”
“A bit early for a nap, isn’t it?”
Adam laughed again, and it was only the smallest of hitches in his breath that made Lawrence suddenly straighten up a little in his chair, puzzle pieces faintly clicking into place. “I’m…not really planning on napping. Not yet, at least.”
“Adam…”
“Are you alone?” Adam asked softly, his tone unmistakable, and a shiver of pure arousal went through Lawrence.

Adam pulls away from his safe crevice in the fold of Lawrence’s neck. “What?”
He’s incredulous, looking at Lawrence as if he had backhanded him across the face. It’s endearing, if not a bit concerning.
“I love you,” Lawrence repeats, as if Adam hadn’t heard him the first time. As if he hadn’t understood- Adam understood plenty. Love, L-O-V-E, those three big words, the ones Adam found only in shitty rom-coms and Deftones songs. Now directed at him, of all people.

There were still a few flecks of glitter clinging to Adam’s nose from the stupid party hats Amanda had brought with her, and Lawrence’s fingers flexed with the urge to brush them away. Instead, he reached to twist their hands together. His skin was still slightly sticky from spilled beer on one of the counters, and Lawrence swiped a thumb over his knuckles. Adam’s hands were chapped, partially from his own anxious picking and partially from his inexplicable reluctance to always take the proper precautions when developing his photos, but Lawrence loved them anyway.
Adam snorted quietly, flexing his fingers in Lawrence’s grip. “I’m trying to clean, stop distracting me.”
