    Summary

Once upon a time there was a tower, and a man who was foolish enough to trespass upon it.

After being dared by his friends to take a single rose from the garden of the dark tower outside of London, Hob Gadling discovers that he has inadvertently run afoul of the tower's keeper, a man who calls himself Dream, and who wields powerful magics. To prevent the deaths of his friends, Hob offers himself as a hostage: to be Dream's captive and confidant for all eternity, trapped together in the dark tower.

However, once there, Hob discovers deeper and deeper mysteries with each passing day. What is the significance of the roses? What is the beast that roams the gardens at night? Why will Dream offer him no answers, and why can none of his servants speak of the tower's past?

And why has Dream forbidden Hob from entering the topmost floor of the tower?

    Summary

In the summer of 1895, Morpheus Sanfin – poet, omega, and disappointment to his wealthy father – flees England on the heels of Oscar Wilde's imprisonment for gross indecency out of fear that he will be condemned for the same unnatural urges.

Seeking a new life in America away from the stifling hand of his father and the expectations of his sex, Morpheus sets out for California with Hob Gadling, a mustang driver who agrees to guide him, not knowing that along the way they will encounter natural wonders, the ghosts of their pasts, and perils that will force Morpheus to reconcile with both his sex and his feelings for his new companion.

    Summary

There's a man standing on his doorstep.

Technically two men. One carrying the other.

"I am sorry," says the man who's standing. "I could think of no better place to bring him."

The other man, cradled in the arms of the first, curled up like a foetal doe with his long legs tucked up and his arms folded inwards, is Hob's stranger. Is Dream.

On a bright and unforgiving Sunday morning, Hob Gadling, having attended the Wake of his best friend, opens his kitchen door to find...his best friend. Changed. Alive. Human, and carried in the arms of the being intended to replace him. Given one month to decide if life is worth living, Hob and Daniel attempt to convince Morpheus of his worth at the same time as all three of them navigate their feelings for each other.

    Summary

"I am willing to...pay...rent," Dream says, each successive word loaded with more uncertainty, until his voice has actually risen on the word 'rent.' Not quite a question, but as near to it as Dream is likely to get in this situation, which is rapidly becoming desperately uncomfortable (for Dream) and confusing (for Hob).

"Do you know how money works?" is the first question that pops out of Hob's mouth.

After making an ill-advised bet with his sister, Dream of the Endless is rendered completely human for one year. In need of a place to stay he turns to Hob, unaware that his oldest friend has been holding a torch for him for the past several centuries. Human experiences! Living life to the fullest! Overcoming depression! Food trucks!

It's going to be a long year.

    Summary

“I’ll guard you for a night,” Hob says, “and say I please you, you can either pay me for a day’s work, or keep me on ‘til you reach where you’re going.”

“Do you know the way to Canterbury?” the lord asks, and Hob nods.

“Oh, yes. It’s a few days’ ride, not more than three or four, by my memory.”

“Then you shall have three days to please me, Robert Gadling.”

In 1389, known mercenary and bandit Hob Gadling offers to escort a strange lord to Canterbury, and wagers that he can guess the man's name in three days.
