"Come on now, I know you’re allergic to doors but I'd rather not nail another board up.” His LED flashing yellow for a moment in guilt, his mouth opened to apologize for the broken window as he followed Hank inside only for the breath in his artificial lungs to leave him in an undignified “Oof!” as 170lbs of lovable fur barreled into his legs and knocked him flat on his back. Freezing for a moment to regain his bearings and to hopefully prevent another attack, he was quickly brought back into focus as a wheezing laugh sounded from further in the house. Doing his best to give an annoyed glare but being utterly unsuccessful as a massive tongue swept over his face, he instead let out a huff.“Seems… ha… seems Sumo here remembered you Connor.”

Summary
Given how and where and when Alastor grew up, he generally doesn't consider himself bad at math. There are all sorts of combinations of sums and division and multiplication he can do without the assistance of an adding machine. He first learned the skill while helping his maman scale up and down amounts in the kitchen. He encountered it again as he started to read music and transpose compositions between different keys for different instruments. Then he honed said skill keeping a close eye on what he should be earning for his hours of work versus what white men tried to pay him, not to mention how tips got allocated out amongst band members. So between cooking and music and money, he’s rather competent day-to-day.
In this particular instance, however, Alastor can admit that he has vastly miscalculated.

Alastor only took the job because rent was due.
What he didn't expect was opening shifts at five in the morning, an increasingly concerning attachment to his coworkers, or Lucifer Morningstar--the overly friendly barista determined to make him employee drinks and ruin his life.
Somewhere between rushed mornings, grocery runs, staff potlucks, and entirely too much flirting, things get complicated.

“Does Angel Dust tend to nest in his suite?” Alastor asked without preamble.
“Why’re you askin’ me?” Husk asked gruffly, briefly trying to feign ignorance. A single raised brow from Alastor was all it took to squash that recalcitrance out of him, his shoulders and wings dropping. “Yeah, yeah – fine. But why’re you askin’ me now? It ain’t like Angel’s gonna steal his own shit and pretend like it weren’t him. Besides, he ain’t anywhere close to bein’ in heat. It’s not him, boss.”

Items have been going missing around the hotel. Nothing of any value or consequence - just people's personal effects. Regardless of their importance, Alastor cannot simply stand by and let somebody rob folks in his territory, right under his nose.
He sets out to catch the thief - and picks up a less than useful helper along the way in the form of one miniature monarch - but comes up empty handed. Empty handed, that is, until later that evening.
With his past racing to catch up to him things and quickly spiraling out of his control, he might find that less than useful helper has a use after all.
