“Johnny.”
He jumps, turns to find Alt, red and zeroes and ones looking down at him. “Where’s V?”
Alt’s code spins, undulates. “You ask a question you already know the answer to. If she is absent here, then she is nowhere. Eradicated by the biochip.”
“No.” Johnny starts moving again, searching for V. “No, no. She’s gotta be in here somewhere. It can’t be that simple, that she’s just—”
“I am afraid you do not understand.” He freezes, feels his hands clench but there’s no pain. “The imminent destruction of V’s engram was just that— imminent. She lived on borrowed time, and now that time is up. You deny what is so blatantly obvious, Johnny Silverhand.” Alt gestures to the cyberspace, empty aside from the two of them, and Johnny almost crumbles to his knees.

Summary
Power was never new to you. You've spent years navigating egos wrapped in thousand-dollar suits. But Lex Luthor wasn’t just another powerful man — he was the scale by which power was measured.
On paper, he was everything the Metropolis gossip feeds loved. A flawless billionaire genius, a self-made titan wrapped in a polished humanitarian mask. The man some whispered could push humanity into its next golden age. And perhaps they were right. Perhaps he was all that and more.
But you etched close enough to see Lex Luthor clearly wasn’t that rumored sunlight. He was more a shadow dressed in silk, relentless in his grasp on everything. Including you.
