The rest of the night really depended on how out of sorts he was from it all. She wished he'd choose literally any other hobby, specifically one that wouldn't damn near constantly have him teetering on the edge.

Somewhere along the line human error occurred. Somewhere along the line he'd missed something. Somewhere along the line he'd overlooked what he was sure he'd observed.
The room was hot, his skin felt flayed, his ears rang shrilly, and a sharp piercing pain stabbed through his eye like a knife. Plankton curled in on himself further, immediately regretting the action as his torso screamed out in agony. He gasped for air, his mind a haze of terror and adrenaline. He didn't want to die, not like this at least. Not in a flurry of regret and failure. If he went out by his own hand he wanted intent. He wanted control. He wanted finality.

Summary
When Plankton receives a call from the Downtown Bikini Bottom Hospital, he’s more than surprised to find out who it’s about, and more importantly, why.
You see, Squidward can’t quit his job, no matter how hard he tries. He’s known that his whole life - it’s been drilled further and further into his head as all these years have flown by. He’s underpaid, and overworked, to the point that the terror of the next day haunts his every dream. Yet, he just can’t truly quit his job. He mustn’t.
Meanwhile, a well-meaning SpongeBob tries to get to the bottom of the situation, with the help of his trusty pal, Patrick. Unfortunately for SpongeBob, starfish don’t have as many braincells as they do limbs.

A Squidward heavy angst fic, written seriously by somebody who thinks he deserves better than the constant in-show torture.
A few jokes and more comical exchanges dotted here and there, but remember - I hope to portray the show’s characters as close as possible to how they’re presented in the show, not convey the show’s general theming, as you can…hopefully already tell by the tags. But above accuracy? I just wanna have fun and give you guys a fun read.

Takes place during "Spongebob, You're Fired!". Instead of searching and applying at other restaurants in Bikini Bottom, Spongebob gets taken in by Plankton and Karen.
At first, Plankton is only mad at Krabs for being a greedy jerk. Then he realizes Spongebob needs a job. And knows the formula.
I wrote this ages ago. Figured it deserved to be posted.
