The horse isn’t from here, and neither is its rider.
Katsuki only gets a glimpse of him in the low light. He sees wild, unruly hair, a compact frame, and the faint texture of leather riding boots and buckskin breeches.
He’s too startled to react, until the horse slows to a trot for just a second. And the rider looks back at him for just a second, before turning back and ushering his horse into a canter, then a rushing gallop.
In that just a second, Katsuki sees wide green eyes glint at him. Not in defiance, or anger, or even jest.
Katsuki knows that expression anywhere. He knows what it looks like, instinctively, on every person. Because he walks through the world that way, the expression plastered on his face no matter where he goes, in desperate, desperate hope that someone knew what he was so severely lacking. What he wanted. Needed.
A challenge.
