“No, listen,” He presses on, the leftover bit of chain tangling in the grass with each slow step, “Ever since my parents… I’ve had trouble letting people in– even if I want to. It’s like there’s this gate, locked and guarded, and I can’t unlock it no matter how hard I try.”
Sasuke feels Naruto’s gaze like a brand, “Well,” He kicks away a pebble, playing with his fingers, “I know how to pick locks.”
Just like that, the tension cracks. It still exists, some unseen oppressive wall, but it lessens just enough for Sasuke to laugh, an honest, belly laugh, and say, “You can try.”
Or; Sasuke and Naruto escape a kidnapping. Lost in the desert, Sasuke finds more than just his way home.

Sasuke considered. “The black one.” The one known for being intense and strong with a permanent grumpy face.
Naruto laughed. “Nah, I think you’re the black puffle on the outside but you’re actually the purple one on the inside.” The purple puffle was known for being fabulous and particular, with a love of dance and beauty treatments.
He snorted. It was surreal to think that he was being psychoanalysed with Club Penguin puffle personalities.
Naruto and Sasuke meet at a party and bond over their nostalgic memories playing Club Penguin.

Sasuke works at Chidori—Konoha's best (read: only) board game cafe. He likes heavy strategy games, nail polish and drinks espresso only. Naruto is an idiot who’s only played Monopoly (wildly incorrectly), reads smutty fanfiction and orders the ridiculous white hot chocolate daily specials. Banter ensues. Board games are played. And somewhere, in the process of living out their own nerdy coffee shop AU, Sasuke learns how to feel his feelings, Naruto faces the insecurities behind his smile, and they realise just how easy it is to fall in love when you’ve found the right person. Also, maybe they make out at a fashion show and have hot sex.
A story of adorable nerds falling in love and looking hot while doing so (because nerdiness and style are not mutually exclusive and boys can be pretty too).

He wastes no time opening the bag, shuffling through a couple of different medicines and listing what they're for. "I don't know what you're sick with, so I just grabbed a couple of things," he explains. "We can figure it out together."
Once he's sifted through the medicine, he sets a bottle of gatorade down on the coffee table noisily. Sasuke looks at it, then back up at Naruto, brow furrowed quizzically.
Naruto doesn’t need any more prompting before he launches into his explanation. “I called Sakura while I was at the pharmacy, and she said it’s important that you stay hydrated. She also said orange juice was good because of the vitamin C, but they were out of it so I got this instead. I think I've heard people say electrolytes are good?”
He talks so fast it makes Sasuke’s head feel like it's spinning, and all he can think to say is, “Of course you got me the orange flavor.”

When Sasuke ends up back in Konoha after the Fourth Shinobi War, he doesn't have a lot going for him: no permanent address, dubious career prospects, a small fortune in overdue fines at the public library, and—worst of all—some kind of complicated feelings situation going on with his best friend, whose bed he happens to be sleeping in.
But asking Naruto out turns out to be the easy part, even if it happens mostly by accident. No, the real problems arise after that, when Sasuke finds himself challenged to single combat (or strategy board game) by every single person Naruto has ever had a thing with. Even without much (any) firsthand romantic experience himself, Sasuke is pretty sure that isn't normal. But hey, in between dodging village council meetings and avoiding folding his laundry, at least it gives him something to do.
