“I can’t believe you talked me into this,” Tony groused as the three of them walked through the crowd, surrounded on all sides by yelling and glowing light sabers.
“Honestly,” Harley responded, “neither can we.”
Tony scoffed, leading the way through the mess of people to find their way out the other side. Above them, a large banner read COMIC CON NEW YORK, and there was a voice talking over a loud speaker, unidentifiable beneath the voices of everyone else. People were everywhere. People in costumes, people without, people lugging giant motherfucking swords on their shoulders like a 2002 anime character and Peter was having a great time.
He was also about to find out about the Avengers costume contest.

In a world where meeting one's soulmate was never guaranteed, soulmates were gifted with Soul Guides; animal companions that represented the emotions and connection between the pair, ranging from small, meek rabbits to intimidating, scaly crocodiles. Regardless of what animal represented your soulmate, they would remain at your side through thick and thin to provide comfort and support when their soulmate could not.
And what a beautiful idea it was, to know your soulmate was always with you, even if it were in the shape of an undyingly loyal companion? Tony wouldn’t know, because he didn’t have a Soul Guide.
That was until one August morning in 2001 when Peter Parker was born.

Maybe it’s his body, too, that throws him off. He’s aware of a heartbeat, strong and steady, of legs that hold his weight and arms that move without a shred of the aches he’d grown used to. He feels rested, like he’s coming off a nap that spanned decades, making up for years of nights lost in the lab or spent out saving the world. But as he walks, it becomes clear—this city is subtly foreign, as if someone swapped the skyline with its mirror image. He looks up, instinctively to the left—and pauses. There’s no Stark Tower piercing the sky.
