“What do you think is going to happen?” Izuku asks. His voice is steady and not quite his.
“If I leave you in here with a hopped-up crazy?” she asks, and pulls something out of her pocket. Izuku squints. It’s a cheap stick-to-the-wall camera, everything disposable except the digital chip. A toy, pretty much. People use them for selfies, or give them to little kids to play with. She slams it onto the steel wall, high up by the ceiling. “I think I’ll get some nice footage of one UA student killing another, is what I think.”

“A mermaid…?” Izuku whispered, still staring. Once found in nearly every body of water, mermaids had grown increasingly rare since the industrial revolution. If a mermaid really had moved to this patch of coastline, then it was no wonder people were celebrating.
Izuku had always wanted to meet a mermaid. He wondered if he'd get to meet this one.

Summary
Katsuki had always accepted the idea of being alone.
For the longest time, this idea had applied to all areas of his life: friends, family, and most certainly romantic partners. In his rush to excel and succeed in his ambitions, he had even embraced the fact that doing so alone was what had to be done. He was perfectly fine with that, even happy with it.
Kirishima Eijirou was a conundrum for him. Katsuki had recently begun to realize that his feelings for Kirishima may have been less platonic than he originally thought.
