“Did I do something?”
Buck stops and turns his head to look at him, confused. “Huh?”
“Look, I can handle it. I'm a grown man. I'd rather know.”
Buck frowns, holding out his hand to stop Eddie. “What are you talking about?”
“You haven't…” Eddie clears his throat, suddenly feeling his face really, really hot.
Buck’s frown snaps a little bit, his lips barely quirking up at the corners as he takes half step closer to Eddie. “Say it.”
“I…” Eddie’s face is on fire, his mouth is dry, and whatever courage he’d found within him has evaporated and disappeared. “I… can't…”
Buck nods, grinning. “Well, that answers your question.”
Eddie’s eyebrows shoot up. “So you're, what, punishing me?”
There’s a moment of stunned hesitation before Buck laughs brightly, blue eyes glued to Eddie’s annoyed face.
“Is not being kissed by me that much of a punishment?”
Yes. But he doesn't say it.
His face does though.
Or: Buck refuses to kiss Eddie. He's only kind of crashing out about it.

Summary
They eat. They talk. They laugh. It’s all the same, but the picture they assemble out of the pieces this time turns out different.
Eddie smiles around a mouthful of his burger, his eyes not leaving Buck’s face for a second. Buck’s knee is pressed warm between his own, while his other leg, the one that never really forgot the crushing weight of the ladder truck, is stretched out under the table, claiming space, unapologetic.
Buck catches a drop of sauce sliding down his chin and licks it off his finger, not breaking eye contact.
Eddie has that sudden, vivid urge to grab Buck’s wrist, pull his hand to his mouth, clean it for him instead – and the thought itself isn’t what surprises him. It’s the fact that for the first time in his life it doesn’t send him scrambling for cover. It just… sits there. Simple. Allowed.

Summary
When Buck sighs, he folds on himself like a bent willow tree. All six feet something curling inwards to the worst chocolate chip cookies dough known to man. “Tommy broke up with me because he was intimidated by my relationship with Eddie. Twice.”
Maddie blinks. “We knew that already.”
Buck rolls his eyes sky-high. “And he’s so sure we’ll need two invites.”
“Hang on. Are you upset that your ex thinks you and your best friend are not together?”
(Tommy is about to get married, which sends Buck into all kinds of spirals. Unsurprisingly, Eddie Diaz is at the center of each and every one of them)
