Queen Yolanda hummed, a thin smile spreading across her lips. But she did not say it back. She never said it back. But that was okay, Trinity was good at pretending, she’d been doing it for a long time...
Or Trinity never would have expected that disguising herself as a man to become a knight would have led her to becoming one of Queen Yolanda's royal guards, and certainly not have gotten her into the Queen's bed.

As shifts turn into routines and routines turn into something far more dangerous, Santos finds herself becoming part of the Night Crawlers and spending more and more time with the one person capable of matching her stubbornness. The problem is that some relationships happen all at once. Others happen one shift at a time.

Samira watches her go, biting the inside of her cheek and shuddering through a purposeful inhale. Her shoulders slump and then her neck follows, head ducked through the exhale. ‘What if I can’t?’ she imagines asking Ellis, ‘what if I don’t know how?’
