    Summary

    A blind man and a mute man meet in a church. Somehow, they make the friendship work.

    Jason's ultimatum ends in the way he least expected it: with a batarang to the neck courtesy of Batman, and his murderer laughing as he bled out. Even though he survived, the damage was done. Mute, he decided to take his leave and wound up in Hell's Kitchen, New York.

    Enter Matt Murdock; blind lawyer by day and the vigilante known as Daredevil by night. Some would say his desire to help others would be what would get him killed one day, and his track record did back up that sentiment. However, that doesn't stop him from befriending a broken but kindred spirit.

    His vision swims, refusing to focus, but he can make out a vaguely human sort of shape, all in red. It’s not the dark, threatening red of the ocean he’d been abandoned in. Instead, it’s overwhelmingly bright, a beacon, a promise of safety.

    “You're alive.” Finally, he manages to blink away enough of the blood and general fatigue to recognize a man’s face within the red helmet. In the darkness, Simon can't make out the color of the astronaut's eyes, but they're soft and fixed on him.

    In which Simon is rescued after escaping the ruins of his own universe. With help from a clumsy, but persistently kind scientist and an alien he's just glad isn't eel shaped, Simon starts to believe he can finally put the past behind him.

    Unfortunately, he's not all that made it through.

    “You’re fucking dreaming about this shit,” Simon huffed out, putting a hand over his eyes as if it would hide the fact they’d already begun to prickle with unshed tears.

    Grace had never wished for a pair of arms so badly in his life, sucking in a sharp breath and holding it a beat so he didn’t accidentally let it out as a pained whimper. “And you’re just hallucinating me,” he said when he was finally able to do it around the frog in his throat. “I think it’s only fair if I get to return the favor by dreaming you.”

    “What a fucked up nightmare on your side. At least I don’t have to be alone in this stupid fucking place. What do you get out of it, huh? Other than a complex.”

    “Well, I got to meet you, didn’t I? I’d say that counts for something.”

    It was a head, curtained by a congealed dredge of hair draped over so much of the face that he could barely discern their features, only making out a single desperately wide eye.

    "…Safe…"

    He could barely make out the word at first, just a waterlogged gargle that escaped like a ragged cough.

    "Keep… . Keep it safe… . ."

    Grace paused his struggle, not because he felt the danger was gone no, his body was coiled to jerk away as soon as the hand tugged again but instead they just clung tightly. It was because he hadn't heard a human a voice in so long, rough and deep, and so desperate.

    "S'more than me… .. . More than me…"
