Adjusting to a family is hard. Especially if you’ve never had one before. It's hard going from the sidelines and peaking through windows to truly being there. That apprehension of having so much to lose is terrifying, and it haunts the back of his mind.
Tom and Maddie are trying their best. But no one said parenthood would be easy.
(Takes place between the battle on Main Street and when Sonic first gets his room in the attic.)

It felt like there was a whole whirlpool of emotions in his chest, and it made it hard to breathe. He couldn’t think straight his mind was all foggy and tears flooded his vision. He gripped hard onto the floor of his lonely isolated cave, taking up fistfuls of dirt. “I don’t want to be alone anymore!”

Shadow’s eyes start to close without his consent. It’s a great struggle just to drag them back open. It’s then that he notices a weight against his chest. Painstakingly, Shadow shifts and pulls his eyes downwards. He sees blue. Blue quills actually. As his eyes close yet again, Shadow tries to remember who he’s clutching to his chest. He dreams of flying through space and golden light.If after Shadow destroyed the Eclipse Cannon, he went to protect Sonic from the fall back to Earth.
