She can't stand the man and feels that his absence while he works is awful to Tifa and the kids. She feels that they deserve a man in their lives that is around all the time.
Cloud, however, hears her comments and sees the way she treats him, causing something inside of him to snap and revert to his 12 year old self, doing various things to, not hurt her, just get under her skin.

Tifa watches. Despite the fact that he won’t look at her, she notices the bloodshot eyes, the slow blinking, the slight rattle in his chest. She hesitates before asking, “Barret, have you slept at all?”
Unmoving besides a quiet swallow, his Adam’s apple bobbing, he answers, “You ain't gotta worry about that.”
“Yeah, I do. Even if I didn’t want to, I would. You’re my friend.” Tifa gently places a hand on his bicep. “Look, you…you’ve been through a lot the last few days. I’m here for you.”

“Fuck does he think he’s doing?” Barret grunted, glowering as he watched Cloud hunched over, gathering and binding a collection of goddamn plants. It had been going on for at least two days now and had become increasingly more infuriating the further it went. At first, Barret didn’t realise what was happening; Cloud would lag and, honestly, Barret hadn’t put much thought into why. Who cared what the merc was up to so long as he didn’t fall too far behind? Eventually, it started getting out of hand, though. Cloud could barely walk an hour without finding something new to forage—botanist bull crap if you asked Barret. Not that anyone had. That in itself was irritating.
“I don’t know, I think it’s quite cute,” Aerith said.
Barret finds Cloud's gathering irritating. The rest of the party does not agree. (Set during the Grasslands in Rebirth so I guess very very minor spoilers?)
