“Maya?” Carina whispered. The room was dark and quiet. The only sound they could hear was their own breathing and the quiet thrum of the city outside the window.
“Yea?” Maya turned her head to look at her wife, blowing hair out of her face, the platinum wisps rising and falling. Her stomach twitched with anxiety and she dropped her gaze to avoid looking at her wife.
“I need to talk to you about something.”
She had known that this conversation was coming and she certainly wasn’t looking forward to it, in fact, she would have gone to great lengths to avoid it. “Okay.” she whispered back. If this was going to be about what she thought it was then this would not be a pleasant conversation.
Carina bit down on her bottom lip for a few seconds thinking hard about how to phrase what she was going to say before making a silent decision and proceeding.
“I would like you to be honest with me and I promise that whatever your answer is I am not going to get angry.”
“Okay.” This was the moment she was dreading.
“I noticed some scars on your thighs. You don’t have to tell me about it now but I need to know, are you hurting yourself?”
