Summary
Where Zandik had stumbled, Dottore played perfectly. It is, technically, a superior performance. Where age had stiffened Zandik's fingers and stolen the fluid ease of youth, Dottore played without fault. If he were a fairer man, he would have complimented Dottore, whose body has never, and never will, experience the weight of time.
Pantalone is aware of this. He is also aware that he does not care. He will admit, nostalgia does make him a little biased, and Pantalone finds that he still prefers Zandik's playing. He's certain that he always will.

Summary
It was widely known how much Pantalone detested traveling out of Snezhnaya, and field work in general. A trusted subordinate would have sufficed. It wasn't as though Pantalone was particularly free, he never was, and never had been. Yet, he had tagged along for Sumeru like a dog on a leash.

Summary
Dottore smiles sheepishly as he places his gloved hand on your palm.
“Forgive me for how long it took me to say this, but I love you.”
He must be getting desperate.
Your heart does a little jump, but that's all.
Silence.
You expected anger, for the frustration and blame accumulated over the years to explode. It doesn't. And all you feel is a weird sense of sorrow.

Summary
"Do you need help?” The Salesman offered, glancing at your quivering hands. Fingers hovering above the trigger, but never making the move to pull it. You moved the gun away from your head, almost letting out a sigh of relief. You made the move to pass it to him, flinching when he takes your hand into his, thumb brushing over your palm.
“You're scared,” he comments, prying the gun from your fingers.
“Don't be.”
He drops your hand, it hits the table with a soft thud. The Salesman smiles, pointing the gun at your temple. You close your eyes, features softening with an exhale. You did not breathe in after that, holding your breath from the anticipation.
You were scared.

Summary
"What?" the man continues. "Never heard one of your test subjects talk before, doctor?"
And, well, it's not quite that, exactly, because of course this isn't the first time one of his test subjects has spoken to him while on the gurney… it's just that typically, they're wide-eyed and frantic, wasting every ounce of their remaining strength to pointlessly plead for him and his segments to spare their lives.
And yet, this man is different.
He lies strapped to an operating table beneath the cold, clinical gaze and scalpel of the infamously insane second Harbinger, slowly dying of a stab wound, and yet he remains impossibly calm, the ghost of a smile on his lips and his voice smooth as velvet.
How peculiar.
"It's a shame we have to kill this one," 35 remarks. "I find that I quite like him."
Alternatively: A report spanning 380 years, beginning in a laboratory where people go to die. Here is the story of a so-called doctor and the man who is his longest-running experiment.

Summary
And there he is, small against the grassy expanse of their estate. Feofan rushes towards him, but the tank hinders him. Watching him struggle, Zandik starts running, and finally they collide—disastrously, cosmically. Zandik swoops him up in his arms, careful not to squeeze him. Their bodies coil around each other, locked in an embrace impossibly tight but gentle.
Feofan laughs, a true laugh. It resounds in an echo in his lungs, a sweet melody bouncing off those ashy walls.
“Zandik!” he says, delighted.
Or, Feofan is dying.

Summary
dottore misses his own funeral and pantalone . in the aq he hears his voice in his head right? mikey what do i do? i have a vision and so does pantalone. it's his dead husband. honey i'm home
The lab scanner still worked on him. Of course, no matter how long the silence lasted their would always be proof of their partnership. He had nothing for a suitable funeral. There was something in him that wished to burn things, but enough had been burned tonight to count as that. He had nothing to bury, and had brought no flowers. How would he call his wizard fairy Doctor now? He had worn black, though unintentionally. Black went well with his hair and eyes, it displayed a sense of wealth and there was really nothing wrong with him at all. He was starting to wonder what he had done then, for Zandik to stand him up like this.
So Feofan kept his word a second time, and had another cigarette. If Zandik wanted to ignore him he'd just join his dear partner himself soon enough.
He always did hate it when I smoked in here.
"Those things will kill you," always chiding, self aggrandizing bastard. As if The Doctor has any place to talk about being killed.
