Slowly, Eddie joined him at laughing.
“I-it would”, Eddie answered laughing
“Oh! I got a brilliant idea!”, Buck said standing up and stumbling back down

Summary
She spends another hour with them, the conversation becoming gradually more casual as the time went on. That felt good because Buck thought it meant she was satisfied with what she was seeing. He felt more comfortable too–hard not to when Eddie was so incredibly effortless. He did realize though that his only lie was that he and Eddie were life partners in that sense. Nothing they’ve said to her has been a lie otherwise, just the telling of a story written by two authors on the same page.
After a call, Buck takes the leap to become an emergency foster. A few white lies on white paper later, he finds himself in a dream come true.

He was supposed to be home by now. It was one of those days where they were supposed to have today off but Eddie had picked up an extra shift. He was covering for someone on B shift, but only for a few hours because the B shifter he was covering for needed to come in late for a school event at his daughter’s school.
He should’ve gotten off around 1.
It was 2:30.
That was okay, Buck thought, maybe Eddie got caught up. Maybe the event ran long and he was staying later.
He pulled out his phone and dialed Eddie’s number.
Straight to voicemail.
Maybe they were on a call?
He texted Eddie.
Hey, text me when you get this. Shift run long?
He couldn’t shake the feeling something was wrong, though.
