Wylan met her eyes as she said that fear laced with something buried deep below . “What…What would happen if Pekka doesn’t care that Kaz has Alby though?”
She looked at Wylan for a moment, studying his face. Inej knew that look. She didn’t need to know everything in Wylan’s past he locked up and threw away the key to, to understand that look. Inej saw it every day she looked in the mirror. It was a look of desperation. A longing to prove your worth to others. To give and give until there was nothing left but the ghost of who you once were.
The night before Kaz's plan Inej can't sleep. To clear her mind she decides to take a walk through the cemetery they are staying in. That is until she spots a crying Wylan.

'At the end of the long hallway, though, is an open door, flooded with light. As Wylan walks down the long stretch, he realises that the music is getting louder. The flute melody is quietly joined by a subtle piano score. It’s at the very end, with his hand reaching for the doorknob, that Wylan recognises the tune - It’s his favourite melody from when he was a child.
But more than that - It is the melody his Mother had played for him before she died.'
