Summary
“Ilya,” Shane gasped out, like it hurt to form the word. With it came a small smattering of blood on his lip. A few extra hands were working alongside Ilya and Pike, but Ilya would not move. He had to stay, and listen, and be with Shane.
“Yes. Shaneya, I am here. What do you need to tell me?” More and more blood burbled up past Shane’s lips, which couldn’t be a good sign. How could more blood be trying to escape him? There were already two exit points, wasn’t that enough? Now he had to drown in it?
“Tell Ilya I’m sorry… I- I love him… So much. I’m sorry I left. Please. Please, I can’t die without him knowing…” Ilya couldn’t breathe behind the sob that tore out of him. He collapsed inward with the force of it. Shane was below him, begging to live so that he could tell Ilya he loved him. If anyone reacted to the two boys, Ilya didn’t notice. This whole thing could still be being live-streamed to ESPN, and Ilya wouldn’t care.
Or, Shane gets shot on the ice right after the Tuna Melt Gate. Ilya is there to save him.

Summary
Ilya is the last to know. Which, he thinks, is not surprising given the circumstances. But as he makes his way to the Boston airport, with nothing but a few random clothes in a duffel bag, a pack of cigs, and his passport gripped in his sweaty, shaking hands, this will be the last time he’s not the first to know.
Or, Shane tries to come out to Hayden on his own terms about being gay (which he takes fine) and Ilya (which he does not), and Shane gets hit by a car.

“I’m sorry, but my answer is no. Someone else might be willing to switch if you ask.”
“I can’t believe—this is unacceptable! I’m going to call the flight attendant over and get this sorted out right now!”
Flustered and cornered, Shane injects his Captain Voice into the conversation. “Ma’am, I understand that you’re upset, but I paid for this seat and am going to stay here. You’ll have to find someone else willing to change places or just fly with the seat you booked. I’m sorry I couldn’t help you.”
She hisses like a goddamn tea kettle, and starts to say, “You are the most selfish man I’ve ever—” when another voice behind her says, “You are blocking my seat. Move.”
Shane and the woman turn to assess the new arrival. It turns out that his seat partner is well above six feet tall, ripped as hell, and knows how to deliver an excellent bitch face. He’s also the hottest man that Shane has ever seen in real life, including a chance run-in with Jensen Ackles at a Stars game.
Or, still!famous Shane meets non!famous Ilya on a cursed flight from Ottawa to Boston and kind of (totally) falls in love with him at first sight (and first chirp)

The intonation was just as he remembered, but the voice was much deeper.He turned and felt himself short circuit. It took every ounce of willpower to not let his jaw drop cartoonishly to the floor.
