Es esa misma noche que Sakunosuke regresa al Bar Lupin después de meses evitándolo gracias a esa foto de Dazai. Sakunosuke ingresa al bar, baja las escaleras con tranquilidad, un saludo saliendo de sus labios que se queda atrapado en su garganta cuando observa al hombre en persona.
Dazai Osamu era delgado y alto, la gran mayoría de su cuerpo cubierta por vendas. Vestía con su atuendo de jefe, sentado en el asiento al lado del de Sakunosuke, una sonrisa en sus labios como si perteneciera en aquel lugar. Era la primera vez que Sakunosuke veía al jefe de la mafia en persona. Después de todo, el hombre nunca salía de los edificios de la Port Mafia.
—¡Odasaku! Me preguntaba cuándo vendrías.
Dazai solo existía dentro de su oficina en la mafia.
Y, aparentemente, también en los mismos espacios que Sakunosuke frecuentaba.

I figured you weren’t writing a car manual. What’s it a story about, huh?”
Dazai clears his throat a few times. “It’s a second person exploration of the use of immersion and kairosis in a romance, intertextual with Akutagawa-sensei’s body of work.”
That might have sounded incomprehensible to a non-writer, but Chuuya has been writing since elementary school, and everything in that sentence adds together to mean: “So you’re writing Akutagawa slash reader fanfic.”
Dazai doesn’t answer, which is Dazai-speak for ‘You’re right but I don’t like it so I’m not acknowledging you at all.’ He cringes when Chuuya bursts into wild, unrestrained laughter.

“I don’t think I like your idea of fun,” Caitlyn mutters, and Jinx laughs, a ragged sound that Caitlyn is embarrassed to admit she hears in her dreams. In her nightmares. Not that it matters.
“Oh,” Jinx whispers, almost airily, and this fragile tone in her voice doesn’t suit her at all. It makes Caitlyn shiver. “You won’t. You don’t like me, after all.”
Again. Caitlyn swallows. This is going nowhere, is it? They’re turning in circles, around and around and around, and Jinx will tug her along until they both perish.

Darius didn’t move and he didn’t let go of Ben’s hand. He waited a few heartbeats, then tugged on Ben’s hand to get his attention. When Ben faced him, Darius leaned forward and kissed Ben’s cheek. “Thank you for sticking up for me, island man.” He winked.
Ben blushed all the way up to the roots of his hair. “Uh, well, um, you’re welcome, dino-nerd,” Ben said.
Hand in hand, they walked back to the boat and their friends.

Palms are on his back, pulling him closer, pressing their chests flush. Chuuya wonders, helplessly, if this is what Dazai hoped for, if he so desperately yearned for these arms to hold him. And then, lips are on his neck, and the whirring in his mind fades to static.

Ango was staring at him. Dazai didn't remember when he had handfuls of Ango's suit in his fists, but he did, and his heart was pounding. Odasaku was dead.
"You..." Ango swallowed, tried again, "You were friends with him first. Before you met me. You knew him better, Dazai. I'm not...I'm not the one who's lucky. You are."
His words were infuriating. Dazai pulled him forward roughly and slammed him against the wall once; Ango grunted in pain, but didn't say a word. Dazai wished he would. Dazai wished he'd say something so Dazai could punch him in the face.

Akutagawa said that, but. There were infinite possibilities. That wasn't outside the realm of logic. Perhaps they were colleagues, in a parallel universe. Perhaps...
"I bet it exists," Atsushi said, and continued on, "A universe where we went to college. A universe where we joined the same extracurricular club. A universe where we met right here and that was it. Nothing else."
"A universe where we've never met." Akutagawa said, and Atsushi made another noise of dissent.
"You wound me."
"Mortally, I hope."

It doesn't.

There are many things Akutagawa wishes he could tell Gin.
About how the Agency welcomes others with a smile, beckoning rather than abandoning. About how the open, fresh air of a farm can soothe the dark mass that seems permanently lodged in his chest. About how people can change, given the right environment and conscious effort. About how a wild beast can be calmed into a housecat.
Akutagawa wishes he could show Gin how he has become someone who protects others. If she were by his side, surely, the two of them could do a lot of good work. Honest work.
If Gin were here, maybe Akutagawa wouldn't wake up in the middle of the night with tears in his eyes.

A pretty blush bloomed on the apples of Yuzuki's cheeks and spread to her jaw as she nodded with an affirming hum. "Yup! Just the two of us."
How is she even prettier like this? The speckled girl gulped. "I, uh-" She cleared her throat. "Yeah, I-I'd like that. I have literature club after school, so meet after?"
And there it was. That special look that Yuzuki only gave to the select few that she considered close to that always knocked the wind out of Makoto's lungs. Her countenance, her being, brightened and shined brighter than any sun or star. Her grin widened and her eyes glittered with joy as they crinkled into crescents. "Yeah! I'll meet you outside your club room after it finishes, 'kay?"
