Summary
Never liked how Hawks never actually found a support system after all the implied stuff he went through, this is basically an angst/comfort fic for me. Need to rewrite some of these chapters. Anyways please read the tags there's some pretty heavy stuff in here even if it's just implied.

Summary
During an undercover mission to a pre-warp planet, Jim and Spock are attacked by a bunch of local criminals. Spock is severely injured and Jim is brutally abused by the attackers. Later, he tries to function as if nothing happened, but he learns the hard way that certain kinds of damage can't be fixed merely by carrying on. Despite genuine support from his crew, Pike, and his friends, Jim - unable to accept help or come to terms with what happened - spirals into self-loathing, panic and a full personality collapse. What will it take for him to finally give himself a chance to heal?

He needed to claim the crown not for himself, but for the people. Stannis could be as clever, serious, and jealous as he wanted, but he was certainly not born for the Iron Throne. Was Renly? No, he didn't think so, but if he could bring peace, Renly was willing to try.
However, there's no point in trying anymore when you've been run through by the shadow of your own brother.
