Summary
The man—Mr. Moriarty—turned towards him, then crossed the room with fluid, measured steps. The scent of bergamot and old paper filled the air as he neared. It was sharp and clean, softened by something warmer beneath.
“Mr. Holmes, correct?” He held out his hand in greeting.
Sherlock shook it. He noted the grip, firm but precise, and the calluses just below the fingers. Nimble hands. Dexterous. Fencer, perhaps, considering his balance and build. His gaze drifted briefly downward, noting the clean cuff, the faint ink smudge on his wrist.
“That's right,” he said, the toothpick in his mouth bobbing with the words. “And you're Mr. Moriarty.”
“Just William is fine. Mr. Moriarty is what the kids call me,” William said, nodding toward the classroom, children playing with toys or coloring on paper inside. “Your daughter is quite bright. Very self-sufficient.”

The words hit harder than they should have.
“Do you want me to answer or not?” William snapped.
“I want this to have never happened.” Sherlock dragged a hand through his hair. “I want my husband to have been faithful to me like we promised in our wedding vows.”
His voice cracked, and for the first time since William had walked through the door, Sherlock looked genuinely lost.

“You knew, didn’t you?” Sherlock asked quietly. “That you were pregnant?”
